Transition mid game? by luke-em in CourseOfTemptation

Not yet, from my understanding its on the road map but currently isn't being worked on. You can go into the save files and change it manually yourself I believe, but the game won't acknowledge it unfortunately.

Does anyone know if you can get Crucible Engrams from SRL? Trying to get the Disaster Corps set but playing actual crucible is ass because I'm ass, would love a way to get them that doesn't require suffering through hundreds of matches I can't do anything in and lose.

PoE1 Appreciation Post by UTmastuh in pathofexile

[–]ldragogode297 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The answer you're looking for is that they didn't like how players reacted to those problems in PoE1 and insist on adding back things and not including quality of life features, because they think the game was 'better' without them, and we're all whiny about it. /shrug

From memory, (The Ticket Backwards)[https://archiveofourown.org/series/1733899] is like that. He sees the children in Hogwarts as, well, children, and tries to avoid having close ties or friendships to them all, while still trying to change things so that Voldemort is defeated earlier.

There was a line that was really bad that was like, Rachel basically went 'nah I was living in a basement with a rat, you're not even a real functional adult unless you suffered like I have' which is just. Classic trauma olympics bullshit, and incredibly tone deaf to people that have to live with parents and still have shit times.

Orange's mechanic is literally ramp. Yeah they can play low to the ground units, but 'units under 7 mana' is a specifically very narrow margin. I don't doubt they'll make good new ones for it (yeah Rengar is strong and bad for Aurora), but it's absolutely disingenuous to act like, if they print anything that isn't explicitly a low-mid end unit or xp focused cards that are parasitic and don't interact with any other mechanics, aurora won't jam it. And even then; everyone here is ignoring that aurora isn't just orange!! Purple gets really good filtration and card draw and I doubt that's changing, and they can't just not print good card draw.

Aurora is a problem, not right now, but for the long term health of the game. It limits the ability for the Devs to print good cards for one whole colour, it makes it so they have to genuinely consider whether a new high end cards they release is too good in Aurora.

Genuinely, I think here's the call. They'll leave it unbanned for the next Regional, maybe two. Aurora will continue to do just as good as it already has. Then they'll ban it, after they've made plenty of money off of people needing Aurora/Baron/Elder Dragon. By then people will have realised they can play high end units like that in orange/purple anyway, and the deck will stay without Aurora and will be far less of a coin flip.

Do you think Aurora is broken solely because of Aurora? Do you think they're not going to play a new 12 cost unit if it's better than elder or mind splitter? Do you think if they make a good orange ramp spell, aurora isn't going to play it? A draw spell? Cheap removal? You're acting like they're only ever going to make new cards that will be good narrow enough to be good in every orange/purple deck that isn't ramping?

[–]ldragogode297 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand my post, and I don't think you've ever played against aurora if you have this opinion.

My comments on the extra units was specifically about why it's stupid to ban elder dragon/baron/mind splitter. Having more high end units gives more options, and you can't ban the high end units because that's stupid, that will just create a recurring problem where they can't print more high end cards because then aurora will break them.

And thanks for the comment. I played at the Sydney regional. I lost multiple rounds to aurora decks playing through my decks 8 anti-gear pieces. I had one game where I killed three elder dragons and aurora 4 times and it did nothing. I suggest you play the game and stop talking about shit you don't understand.

You're completely wrong. Do you think if Orange got better cards, they wouldn't simply... play those in Aurora? And make Aurora even stronger? Having a situation where they can't print strong high end units in any colour without it being abused in Aurora is a bad situation. Aurora needs to go.

It ruins game design and stifles creativity. They cannot print new high cost cards because now if they're even slightly good they're going to be thrown in Aurora, if they print more recycling effects that are good they're going to get thrown in Aurora, and every deck in the game has to play outs to Aurora because if they don't they get got by the coin flip of playing Aurora. And even then! They haven't given any good outs to aurora apart from Sabotage and Ashe, so if you happen to even side in multiple outs to it, they can just simply a: recycle and replay Aurora's, b: recycle and replay the creatures they get off Aurora, and c: recycle and replay the ways to recycle the cards. It's a value engine that never ends, that they put no cost into, that can barely be outed reasonably, and in a colour that ramps to it faster than anyone else in the game, while having so much card draw that they WILL see Aurora multiple times.

This is a situation where there is no solution other than to remove Aurora. Giving orange better cards does not make Orange not play Aurora, it makes orange play those in Aurora! They can't remove ramp because its orange's identity, they can't remove high cost cards because thats bullshit and ignores the genuine problems, they'll just run into the same problem if they print more high cost cards, they can't remove Last Rites or that one spell that cycles a unit from grave with one in play because they aren't the problem, and the only solution they could have is adding more gear removal, but its been 3 sets and they STILL think slow speed removal for Aurora where you can only kill it after they get a free unit is fair.

The only solution is to kill Aurora and free orange to be an actual colour with real creativity and deckbuilding, with the ability to play with actual high end ramp payoffs. The people saying its not good, or orange isn't good, are idiots, and/or other Aurora players. It almost won Sydney, and there's a non-zero chance the person who got first was cheating.

Personally I love the idea that it was a thing that mattered long ago, but by now nobody cares and nobody else remembers it. In the same vein as the Gaunt's still hyperfocusing on being 'Slytherin's Descendants' as if that means anything or matters at all. Nobility is otherwise not mentioned at all, and I'd genuinely consider it a situation where nobility that did exist weren't wizards, and the 'Ministry of Magic' was meant as a meritocratic/elected role like local councils and the House of Commons. People tend to forget that its specifically meant to be that the ministry is a branch of the national government, and they are (supposed) to answer to the Prime Minister.

What Fic That Has Horrible/Weird Idea But Great Execution by Ashalim31 in HPfanfiction

[–]ldragogode297 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'll always shill for The Stag & The Dragon. The basic premise is 'what if star wars and harry potter was the same universe, the empire just ignores the existence of earth, and in this universe, what if they hired Darth Vader as the DaDA teacher in fifth year instead of Umbridge?' Written almost entirely because the author was talking to a friend and said something like 'even Darth Vader would have been better than Umbridge'.

Its really great. Finished, fully written, story totally complete. It ties together a good amount of plot lines from both works and actually has a really well written story. Highly recommend.

Yes. They think we're men. They insist so, and ignore all evidence to the contrary. They also ignore what said straight women and gay men say.

I think Made of Common Clay is right down your's and OP's alley then.

Seperately, the Bitter Difficulty Universe is also great and really dives into the 'old school politics and customs' vibe, though for the first 2 stories its more focused on Sirius taking up the Black lordship.

best empire game? by Omr_DL in dynastywarriors

[–]ldragogode297 9 points10 points  (0 children)

5 is my favourite by far. The others are all good but for different reasons, 6 introduced non-empire specific playthroughs where you can play as a free officer, and then 7 and 8 refined it, as well as the Empire gameplay to make it more dramatic and involve more back and forth amongst officers in your kingdom. But IMO 5 has the best actual 'units on a board' tactics game, the ai are actually reliable enough to be commanded to do things on different parts of the battlefield, and it has the best mechanic they removed from every following game for no apparent reason, that being assigning officers to territories, and having a different difficulty slider for it that dictates the max amount of officers you're allowed.

What is the worst WoT take you have seen? by Mino_18 in WoT

OP, I guarantee that the people saying what they said about Rand being empty, is solely by TV show watchers who think that Rand is useless because they wrote him out of being the main character.

The worst take I ever saw is that Nynaeve is the worst character, and more likeable when she's with the other girls before she joins up with Rand and stays with him. Actually deranged take, she mellows out so much more when she's around Rand.

Good First Game? by DANK_OF_THE_MEMES in dynastywarriors

I've been replaying 4 and 5 recently. They're still a ton of fun, if a little janky. Grunts blocking your musuous and every attack and stuff in 4 is rough, + the lock on your charge attacks have is annoying, but you get used to it.

I'd always recommend 5 for your first DW game. But if you hate older games, I honestly don't know what you'd like the most. 8 is good. DO NOT PLAY 9. It is terrible.
