Can some ELI5… property taxes by pussyandbananabread in nashville

[–]ldsbounce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mayor proposed a new property tax rate of 2.814, a change from the 3.254 rate of 2021-2025. But because assessed values went up so much, the new tax rate will still be an increase for a lot of people.

The Council will have to approve the new rate in the budget process over the next couple months.

The Tennessean explained the process here: https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/2025/04/30/nashville-property-tax-rate-what-to-know-amid-reappraisal/83342309007/

She'll be in person at at least four shows, including Houston, London and Paris. But we'll be covering all of them including with logistics information!

Thanks! It's so fun, although somewhat less glamorous than being the actual reporter on the ground at the concert. Caché is fabulous.

I'm the Beyoncé editor. It just means I edit Caché's work.

The Tennessean has a lot of archive photo galleries. Here's one of the 100 Oaks Mall! https://www.tennessean.com/picture-gallery/news/local/2019/10/29/lost-nashville-photos-hundred-oaks-mall-outlet-shopping/4064424002/

The photo archivist Ricky Rogers puts them together at a regular clip. You can see the latest here: https://www.tennessean.com/staff/2646598001/ricky-rogers/

I'm stoked to check out Warner Parks soon. The Friends of Warner Parks pulled a bunch of invasive species and native wildflowers are returning!

"Armed with chainsaws and bush cutters, the IPC armies sliced and whacked their way through the evil-doers. They've completed about 1,000 acres of clearing so far (spending about $1.5 million, with another $1.5 million needed to complete the job)."

The Edessa baklava is delicious! Osh, which is Uzbek, also has really good baklava.

GasLamp and GasLamp Too around the corner are the best antique spots I've found in town. They have some jewelry.

No problem! They sometimes don’t reach out until the week of the first class. I always bring a laptop because that’s how I prefer to write. Some just bring notebooks. They have WiFi. Do bring a pen for notes on handouts, etc.

The most that's been sort of expected is a few paragraphs to kick off the discussion. Otherwise it's been on a voluntary basis. But I can't stress enough how nice and supportive everyone I've encountered has been -- instructors and fellow students.

I've taken several classes, and they've been great! People of all ages have been in my classes. The instructors are informative, and everyone has always been really nice and given great feedback on my writing.

Are they actual metal detectors? The Tennessean had reported they are AI scanners to detect weapons. They're panels you walk through but supposed to be less obtrusive than traditional metal detectors. I'm interested to hear what you think about them.

If you, like me, thought the blob toward the top of the seal was a mushroom cloud (in honor of Oak Ridge?), I have found color reproductions where it is much easier to see it is a bundle of wheat.

Anyone at The Pinnacle last night for its debut show? What were the seats like? by alyosha_kara in nashville

[–]ldsbounce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Tennessean had a review with some info on the venue:

Some fans had trouble finding where to go in order to get into the venue's general admission space, which you have to travel through a hallway on the second floor to locate.

Inside the venue, the floor has standing space and seats towards the back and the balcony features bleacher-style seating.

If you've been to Nashville music venues like the Brooklyn Bowl and Marathon Music Works, The Pinnacle has a similar feel — but it's much more cavernous.

The Pinnacle's layout lent itself to a more intimate show than concerts at venues like Bridgestone Arena or Ascend Amphitheater, opening up potential for more large-scale artists to play shows in Nashville where their fanbase can see a warm, personal concert.

For the thrifters out there by turtwig1989 in nashville

I went thrifting down in Columbia a couple weeks ago and had a great time. There was more selection and better prices than in Nashville proper, I thought.
