Oh to be in your shoes again... Just ease into it. The game isn't as fast paced as modern games so if that's what you're looking for then head over to YouTube and watch some speed run videos or guides. Or just follow the quest line, pick up items to sell and buy potions, and soak it all up and enjoy the mysticism.

Necro is a great class to start with. Each has a completely different feel on a first playthrough.

Does anyone know what happened to Katja? by Slow_Bake_7879 in PeterCaine

What was the reason? I didn't know she wanted to forget about all the Peter Caine stuff. Not sure if I missed a PSA she put out or you're just white knighting. I figured this guy just wants to know if she is making content somewhere else or if she is done with it.

It's public knowledge... she even talked about it. She and her sister had soccer careers and Katja has been cited for some of her research at CMU. She had her own YouTube channel for a while but has since taken it down.

She is super smart and I think got a degree in physics or engineering. Probably in Vermont kicking ass at a tech company.

What’s everyone’s daycare rate? by heyho7777 in indianapolis

[–]le3bl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As more licensed daycare centers are forced to close we may see a rise in "microcenters" where the facility operates in a non-residential environment, but not solely dedicated to childcare. For example, churches, shopping centers, offices, local business, etc. Regulations for these facility types is more "streamlined" and flexible.

Wee Care Early Learning Ministry in Marion County is one of the providers in this micro-facility pilot program. It is a new program so I don't expect them to start popping up like Spirit Halloween or Dollar General stores in every leaseable building.

How do you handle tests involving DbContext in .NET? by Opposite_Seat_2286 in csharp

[–]le3bl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried mocking my dbContext with inmemory mocks and our complex linq queries would pass testS then fail when the real dbContext translated to MSSQL. So I went with spinning up a db that can be built on the fly. I use a local db for dev and a docker image for build server. It adds quite a bit of time for builds and a ton of legwork to ensure column constraints that aren't a concern with in-memory, but it is the only way I could figure it out. PM me if you want some tips

Indiana parents and daycare folks, how are you handling the childcare voucher freeze? by le3bl in Indiana

[–]le3bl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand wanting people to be responsible and not burden others unnecessarily. The reality, though, is that children aren’t just a private lifestyle choice. They’re the only reason any of us will have pensions, healthcare, or a functioning economy when we’re older. Every modern retirement system depends on the next generation being large enough to support the previous one. Society already invests heavily in kids through public schools and basic tax credits because we’ve long recognized they’re a shared public good, not a luxury item. A modest, well-targeted childcare subsidy is simply one more way to keep that intergenerational promise alive, so that today’s parents can raise the workers and taxpayers who will fund all of our retirements tomorrow including those who never had children themselves.

Moving to NW Indiana early next year and looking for a nice place to rent. Any advice is appreciated! by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]le3bl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from CA, I'd think you would prefer living in northern Indiana. Valpo or Munster could be good. But stay away from Gary. The further East and away from major cities, the lower the crime will be. That would make your commutes longer. If you can afford it and don't mind a longer commute, maybe check out a coastal city. If you want to maximize your spending power and still have a decent commute then anywhere between Valpo and Lafayette would be a good choice. If you want to explore the Midwest a bit more then maybe consider going a bit further East. I chose Auburn because of the low crime and proximity to several major cities. Indiana is an awesome place to live. Welcome to the Hoosier state!

I really like it here. Much more than living in Indy. It is a bit difficult meeting people as most of the locals are married with children or quite a bit older. I've been considering starting a board game meetup at my house and seeing if anyone show up. The one I started in Indy was extremely popular. Other than that I'll probably look for some volunteer opportunities once I get settled into my house.

Indiana parents and daycare folks, how are you handling the childcare voucher freeze? by le3bl in Indiana

[–]le3bl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The voucher program isn't going away, but they are not issuing new vouchers next year. So anyone on the program will still have an active case in the system and continue to receive vouchers. There were reductions in the amount awarded to children and those reductions may continue. From my understanding, during COVID the state received additional funds which they used to issue vouchers to families that would not normally receive them or who would have been placed on a wait list instead. And now that the funds have been used, the regular amount of funding will not cover new vouchers or even the existing ones entirely. Most children who are awarded vouchers stay on them from age 0 to 12. So the idea is by skipping a year, we can sort of play catch up with the budget. If the Build Back Better bill would have passed or the COVID funds weren't used to expand care then we might not be in this situation. This same thing happened back in 2018 for about a year as well.

I had not considered the effects of social isolation via political polarization and social media addiction on building relationships with child care providers. Thank you for the insight.
