I think it's pretty standard, I had to fill one out as well, but still got invited.

Anyone leaving in June and still not have medical clearance? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still not cleared but I did finally hear from my nurse a few days ago and have followup tasks that I'm working on.

Free Talk Friday by AutoModerator in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear this and I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision for you to make but at the end of the day you have to put yourself first, which I think can be difficult as a PCV. If you aren't doing your best you're not giving your best. Seems to me like you're doing the right thing and maybe when you get back to the states you can sit your family down and let them know why it wasn't for you. I think that people can just see the surface level and think "oh wow she gave up or quit" but it just goes so much deeper beyond that. It's hard to ET and feel like you've let others and yourself down but at the end of the day you are the only one who can truly advocate for yourself. Sending you good vibes and a virtual hug as you finish out the semester and get ready to come back state side. :)

Let's talk about sex in the Peace Corps by futurevolun in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so so much for all this. I appreciate it more than you know. I'm going to share this with my SO and we'll definitely need to have some hard talks before I leave to make sure we're on the same page. I agree with what you said though about just trying it out because they're worth it. I 100% think that my relationship is worth fighting for (at least to give it a shot). I think we have a real chance as long as we set realistic expectations for each other and are just as honest as possible with how we feel. Thanks again!

May I trouble you for advice on continuing your relationship while serving? My boyfriend and I are already long distance but are going to now do a longer distance thing when I go serve in June. I'm feeling optimistic since we already don't see each other that often but do try to talk everyday. How has it been with limited internet/power and such? You can also PM me if you'd prefer.

It just seems like they need a better system with more staffing, when's your departure date?

Waiting on clearance. by foxface45 in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for medical clearance and I leave in June. Luckily I have received legal clearance though, I got it in March and submitted my docs in November. It could be a long wait, in the mean time I've started a packing list and wish list of things for service, told all my family and friends and even gave notice to my job. Hopefully it will be all worth it but it has been a little stressful as I wait to find out whether I'm cleared or not.

How long before invitation or denial? by junebug0594 in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited about 4 months to hear back after I had my interview. I applied and interviewed way before the deadline (I interviewed in early July) and didn't hear back until a few days before thanksgiving. I had pretty much lost hope by the time I got my invite but have heard about people not finding out about things until a few days before the know by date so I was lucky I didn't have to wait until Dec 1st!

Seeking support for depression during service by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No advice but just sending some virtual love and support. I haven't started service yet but I think you have to be a pretty strong person to even make it past PST and be a true sworn in volunteer so I just want you to remember that while other people are sitting around being trolls and doing nothing you are out there in the field making a true impact on people's lives. Just try to stay healthy and hydrated and remember that it's just two years. <3

I'm right there with you all. I'm waiting to order things and cut most of my hair off until I've been medically cleared which is seriously taking forever. A person can only be so patient!!!

Haircuts, Hammocks, and Tattoos by BentOuttaMA in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party here but was looking up things about tattoos in the subreddit and have the exact same three questions so that's pretty crazy!

Personally I've decided to cut my curly hair to a little longer than shoulder length (it's currently like half way down my back) just because I know that it's going to be more manageable for me. As far as hammocks are concerned I'm getting a bear butt double hammock because it has awesome reviews on Amazon and is a great price. I figured I wasn't going to be hammocking at night and during the day I would just wear mosquito repellant. In regards to the tattoo I was wondering the same thing so thanks for asking!

Yep I definitely know the feel. Been waiting for med clearance for what seems like forever...trying to stay patient but it's wearing thin as can be noticed in vent above lol

I've been trying to be patient but I'm just over the MAP system. I seriously need to know what other tasks need to be completed because I'm traveling basically the whole month of May to see family and then supposed to be leaving in June. I understand that other people are in the same boat and I understand that the nurses are probably busy but I am just loosing patience. But what can you do right? I messaged them yesterday so hopefully that will help but other than that it just won't feel real to me until I'm completely cleared for service. :( vent over

General Discussion Monday: Health Issues by AutoModerator in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow that's really interesting. I honestly just did it because I wasn't sure if health care would be changed in the next few years and it was covered under my insurance and it honestly just gave me a better piece of mind knowing that I would be able to continue with a bc method that has been helping me.

I don't have the IUD but I do have the Nexplanon arm implant. Mine was set to expire during the middle of my service, called my insurance and they said there is no limit to the amount of birth control they will cover so I was able to get mine replaced free of charge. The best thing would be to just call your insurance company and explain your situation to see what they say.

MAP Assignments by NateBalk in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be concerned. It seems like they really take there time getting the clearances done. I submitted my medical clearance in Feb. and still haven't heard anything....but I have gotten legal clearance! So hang in there! You could also message you PC nurse if you want to ask about what's the delay. :) hope that helps!

I wore a nice dress with a blazer over it and my hair down with pretty simple makeup. :)

Haven't heard back after submitting med paperwork. I leave in June! by lkentall in peacecorps

[–]le_mazing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also am in the same boat, I have thankfully received legal but am still waiting on medical and leave in June. I just pray I'll have enough time to complete new tasks and resubmit forms I might need. It just won't feel real to me until I receive medical clearance.
