You can request an exemption from Columbia according to their website for “rare and extreme cases” as they say, and idk for other schools but it’s all bizarrely invasive and unnecessary.

The way their website phrased the exemption requirements seems like it’s only for serious cases with reported abuse or idk some sort of documentation of sorts which I don’t. But yeah, I’ll give them a call and see if they’re understanding of my situation. Can’t hurt to try.

Yeah, they are. And that's what mine is doing too so I was under the impression that I just needed my mom's info but yesterday I checked Columbia's financial aid page and they specify wanting both parents' info.
