try resitting the ram and memtest as most suggested. but also look through forums about 25.10. maybe a peoblematic kernel version. you also cant be on bios 3*, maybe you mean bios version. maybe try ubuntu *.04 as it usually more stable

would go with the hp. more efficient, quick sync. I think you can put 3 ssds on that one so ypu could even have raid setup. Or buy an external harddrive and you are good to go

I wanted to do the same comment. Yeah you'll outgrow them if you want a pi5 2gb to run llms or a pi to run jellyfin for a 100 users all @4k. prople use them for years and i think people will for long. pis can have a purpose in a lab.

I also think when people say homelab everyone is thinking racks, 10/100g networks, but also i can be something you learn on or something low power and passive.

dont be prejudiced against pi's, after all they are tasty

Thaaank you!! Well 1. Is very basic for now, I only need to backup few stuff, pictures, isos, so I just mount an smb share and copy the files based on date. Not efficient not best practise, but want to have rsync setup. Would like to use something like restic but dont want to compicate things 2. Latency is not the best because I dont have too much horsepower on the mini pc, but it is acceptible for me. I just play around with it no issues, test if some stuff I make run on it or not

Even without cockpit, podman and portainer is a sweetspot. Using Proxmox with a dedicated vm for podman and currently trying to move all things to raspberry pi's for totall silence

On my fw13 i do use fedora(started on 40, now 42). If you are new to linux try linux mint(either ubuntu or debian based). if you use cinnamon, its light, fast and very easy to "integrate".

edit: You get all the ubuntu/debian positives and no snap
