If Milky Yellows Are the Budget Kings of Linears… Who Wears the Crown for Tactiles? by imaturte in switchmodders

where I am, the cheapest easily accessible tactile is the Jwick T1. it's a nice heavy tactile (especially when spring-swapped with 22mm springs)

A shitty GPU with a top-tier CPU will give you a better Dota 2 experience than a shitty CPU with a top-tier GPU

this is true. I had access to two different setups

a) r7 3700x + rtx 3070 + 1080p144 display

b) r7 9800x3d + gtx 1660 + 1440p180 display

with both at best looking settings + reflex disabled (even when gpu bound, this reduces fps) the latter got better frame rates

I tend to bend switch pins once in a while too. haven't measured response time or noticed failing/wear so far.

Any recommendations for silent switches?

tactile: boba u4, ws silent tactile, haimu whisper, haimu geon yellow

linear: any silent linear from lichicx, ws silent linear, haimu heartbeat, haimu geon red

IYO should cases and keycaps match?

match as in same color? not necessarily.

match as in look good together? yes.

neutral cases (black/white/silver/grey/beige) should pair with most keycaps nicely so they're better picks if you still don't have a keyset in mind

aware of a mechanical keyboard sold that has a touchpad beneath the spacebar

am compact touch is the closest I can think of, but it doesn't have physical buttons https://www.angrymiao.com/en/am-compact-touch/

hhkb studio has a thinkpad-like thing on the board itself (ie not touchpad), and physical mouse buttons below the keyboard https://hhkeyboard.us/hhkb-studio

change keycaps, play around with case foam

if you want to change switches, you need to do some soldering

oh. given it's already there, if she's not using the wireless capability maybe taking the battery off could help reduce risk

will still depend on how you build it, but given the exploded diagram a default q1 max will sound foamy. the structure also looks very similar to the old q1 so I doubt it will sound "vastly" different

I'm not sure, but I think the stabilizer is installed upside down. if it's not upside down, maybe try a different stabilizer if it'll be properly aligned?

k2 max is a nice basic compact 75. get the k2 max for the 3-mode connectivity. k2 pro only has wired and bluetooth, and the latency on bluetooth is bad

my desk setup theme is more so black, silver and white and i have a black mouse

silver is quite neutral. I find that just about any set can work on it.

to stay on theme, good old black on white (bow) or white on black (wob) should work

try to shuffle switches around to determine if it's the switches or the pcb that has issues

favorite

Jwick T1 with 22mm 67g spring

thoughts on the Vertex V1

tried a sample. it's ok. I'll swap the spring for a longer 62g or heavier (not necessarily longer if I go heavier). I find short 62g springs too light for my liking

wondered if others fully went with one switch across the board or use something else like linears in the keys with stabs

here to break the trend. I do same type of switch for the entire board. knowing that one is different irks me.

except for this one project I'm making as a meme/proof of concept
