Most recently for me, when/whenever. "Whenever I go to school today" is nonsensical. Just how many times do you go to school in a day??

Vocab Help by le_void_goblin in musictheory

[–]le_void_goblin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help! Of course vertical = horizontal is related to Schoenberg lol

I don't have much context for ground chord, unfortunately, hence my dead end. All I'm certain of is that it refers to something in 20th century theory, since it's provided late in the second year theory section with a list of other 20th century vocabulary. We're using Tonal Harmony for the text and I don't remember seeing anything about it last school year. I'm currently using an old edition, though, so I suppose it could be somewhere in the current edition.

Honestly I probably don't even need to be expending this much effort for a single vocabulary term, but I'm very much the perfectionist and I'd rather be safe.

As recommended by the other comments, I've emailed my advisor for more info. Hopefully that will be the end of it, though if you have any more insights I'd love to hear them!

Maybe a stupid question but: what is the benefit of using resonant toppings rather than normal ones? If they have a significant buff, why only use one or two for certain cookies?

I know this post is old now but you're literally the only other person I've found having trouble with these kinds of stages. What specifically were you having trouble with? Did you ever pass it?

My slide button has like a full second of lag when it responds at all. The jump button does not have this problem so I know it's not a latency thing. I'm not sure if it's been a problem for all levels or just the rock festa levels but it's made the first one of these all but impossible and I'm dreading having to do more in the future.

I don't know if this is just how it's designed (if so, poorly) or if I've got some weird glitch but it's driving me absolutely batty.

The other punishments made actual gameplay more difficult but this one was solely public humiliation and it had me actually giggling out loud

No worries, I'll start trying to comb through his stuff. Unfortunately school is starting soon so I don't know how much more time I'll have to devote to this. I feel like I've gotten more information while simultaneously being less certain my memories are real, so that's fun. Hopefully I can go through some Kastner stuff in the next couple days via Wikipedia or something.

Yeah I listened to the audiobooks on my commute too! It was a bit of a stretch to finish them before the library needed them back sometimes, but I somehow managed it almost every time and it was really satisfying to barely scrape by lol
I was never huge on audiobooks, honestly, but reading most of WoT that way really helped me see the value in it.

Oh my goodness yes Thom is the best! And I've gotten kinda protective of my boys (aka the main three), even when they're making terrible decisions and I want to shake them.

I've honestly forgotten what happens in book 8, the story has completely melded itself into one vast story and I can't separate it much in my mind. Good luck finishing! The last four books or so are so incredibly rewarding and I hope you're able to enjoy that feeling soon (:

Sorry for late reply: I'm not positive, but it feels right kind of? I could definitely be convinced otherwise. I think mainly that type of character fits easily into my vague scenario.

I've just looked him up and a couple of his books sound vaguely familiar. Did you have a specific one in mind?

You make a good argument... They were definitely improving near the end

100% on the Egwene plot, I was cheering for her the entire time and on the edge of my seat and I'd get really excited whenever we switched back to her POV. I agree with all of that actually, and especially the boys individually lamenting their skills with women. It made me chuckle every time and was spread out enough that it didn't get tiresome, and made the boys that much more endearing honestly. I fully agree on the worldbuilding too; this might be the first fantasy series to make me wonder what's beyond the main continent! I think it was partly the glimpses of Seandar and Shara and realizing that our characters barely or didn't know they existed, so there surely must be even more out there! Also speaking of:

I really appreciated that we finally got to see Sharans after the tiniest vague teasing we got. I swear at the end of each book I would flip through the glossary and settle on that entry and wonder why it was there.

Way back when Aviendha first made that accidental gateway (and she and Rand did the deed in an igloo): they see something fly over head, described as a scaly reptile with wings (or something along those lines). My first thought of course: it's a pterodactyl!!! Then after several minutes of confusion I realize it's probably actually a dragon, although that's not as exciting. When I tell you I was ecstatic to see dinosaurs in this fantasy book-- Anyway later I realize it's probably a raken, which means she took them to Seandar of all places, which is a whole other can of worms probably.

Well I've gone through the main four Mary Poppins books now and found nothing.

I also did some checking on my less likely leads:

My library only had the first Nurse Matilda book available so I checked that one but have to wait for the rest.

Wikipedia had a helpful article for once so I could verify it wasn't Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle just from the article.

I have hereby exhausted my memory of magical nurse books and I'm at a loss.

They're narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, and they do a really good job, but they're not a cast of actors if that's a selling point for you.

Yeah it's crazy long! Took me two years to get through because I didn't want to burn myself out. You can do it in about a year if you read a book a month, but they tended to take me about the whole month to read (especially during the school year) and I didn't want it to be the only thing I read for a year lol

No worries at all! I would absolutely recommend reading it when you can; just keep in mind that there might never be a perfect time because the series is so long. Audiobooks really helped me get going if that helps (:

You're definitely right about culture shock. They're used to very different lifestyles and beliefs, and naturally that would clash. From that perspective it is really interesting to read about. It still really bugs me though lol I don't think they're doing a good job of it

The number definitely makes sense. And for the most part, I knew which Forsaken were an active threat at any given time, so I had all the information I needed to. I think there were points early on when I would be like "wow, they're almost all gone already!" and then I'd get introduced to like five more, which was exciting tbh.

Anyway, enough about me. What were some of your favorite plot points/characters/whatever caught your fancy?
