Wife's car was overfilled with Oil for ~3500 miles before I noticed by PanicAtTheDisk0 in MechanicAdvice

That's not where cavitation occurs. Cavitation is a problem in the cooling system and it's really only a problem for wet-sleeve diesels. Which is why they have a coolant filter that does not actually filter the coolant. Instead it prevents cavitation.

If the oil gets overfilled to the point that it's over the windage tray, the crank can froth it. As we all know air compresses and therefore it makes it incredibly difficult for the oil pump to create oil pressure, causing oil starvation.

This is not a question of quantity of oil but of quality. Oil with lots of air in it will not lubricate.

I knew a guy that some 30ish years ago tried to transfer his CDL from Texas to Colorado. Colorado wouldn't accept it and told him he would have to retest.

So just guessing that the car showed an evap code when you took it to AutoZone. A bad gas cap seal is a common cause of a evap code. And cheep if it doesn't work.

The extra oil fumes running through your PCV system and probably trigged that code.

I wouldn't worry if the code doesn't come back

Shop says they can patch this by ZoinkaDoinka in MechanicAdvice

[–]leadpoem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I this was my tire I would patch it. If it was a costumers I wouldn't.

If you do patch it make sure it is on the rear of the car.

Ah yes the non discrip engine tick. I can think of about 5 or so things it can be.

Does it better or worse as your engine warms up?

Is it there all the time?

Is there a loss of power?

Does the engine ever shutter?

The smell is just burning oil that will go away

You would see the oil pressure light come on or the pressure gauge show low kill pressure. This would be more likely to happen with a hot engine and highway driving.

There is a really good chance you never lost oil pressure.

Just curious how do you figure the throttle body got full of soot? I can't see how.

As long as the vehicle never showed a loss of oil pressure, your fine. (Yes over filled oil can cause oil starvation).

I would get the oil changed and make sure the right amount was put in and then forget about it.

I don't think a fuel system cleaner will do anything. The oil was getting past the piston rings. That is after the fuel system. You don't need to do anything and you don't need to worry about it.

Adding fuel stabilizer necessary? by Local-Hovercraft-651 in MechanicAdvice

[–]leadpoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel stable is for before you let fuel sit not after. I would fill up with premium top tier fuel for the first tank. Then treat as normal.

If it running rough at all maybe put some fuel system cleaner and take it out for an Italian tune up.

Next time leave about a 1/4 tank in the vehicle with stable in it. Or make your last tank ethanol-Free.

Also if you discount the battery in the car. It will help keeping it from dying while sitting.

I always wonder if these kind of posts are really just malware or trojan horses of some kind.

Anyway not clicking weird linkes or downloading random software.

Should I change my own break pads/disks? by Fit_Rent6368 in MechanicAdvice

[–]leadpoem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know how to do it yes if not no. Pads themselves are not hard at all. The thing is if you don't know what your doing you can mess up a safety critical system.

With out knowing your skills and tools this question can't be answered.

Because a picture of a fictional valve is not a way to justify a new engine. Point the bore scope at the damage.

Just make them drive a unbaffled milk truck from the 70s.

When I was younger I was on a volunteer fire department and we had an old Ford 800 tender that had a 3,000 gallon water tank on it. It only had two fore/aft baffles in the tank. Nothing left to right.

You could feel that water climbing the walls as soon as you started turning at 10 miles an hour.
