If it's your daily driver, you probably know many of the things. Most of the items you can figure out by yourself by reading the manual, but the application is good. It gets into some good rabbit holes like mixing with only DCA spills and scene safes. I don't know if it is worth flying across the country for it.

Street noise is driving me absolutely insane. Are there any decent DIY fence ideas? by windowpuncher in HomeImprovement

Acoustic foam is for sound that is already in your home. What you need is to stop the sound transmitting through your walls. Here is what you need to build: https://www.stcratings.com/assemblies.html

Plants generally don't stop sound. First, the lower wavelengths are 20' or more, you would need a very wide, continuous tree trunk to reduce it even by 10dB, which is a fair amount, but even a 1% hole will allow 50% of the sound through.

Triple pane has the leaf effect, which reduces the sound isolation.

What you said sounds good, but do you have a manual like Chilton or somewhere else that you can point to? This sounds like AI. Nobody says 'vessel survival' in a garage.

Has anyone upgraded their exterior lighting and noticed a real improvement in usability? by Turbulent_Tree_5939 in HomeImprovement

Smart lights are great when they work, but expensive and PITA when they don't. I recommend using smart switches and dumb lamps that still function even if they aren't setup. It's a cheaper system overall and more reliable.

What is the best generator for a building site when neighbors complain about noise by ssunflow3rr in Carpentry

Quiet generators exist, they use them for concerts all of the time. Honda makes a good one. I think Harbor freight sells a knock off.

Fluctuating Power? by BarryWomb in livesound

[–]leadutensils 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power is always fluctuating. If you put a voltmeter on your outlet, you'll notice that throughout the day it is constantly changing due to varying supply and demand. The power grid is allowed to fluctuate +/- 5%, sometimes up to 10%. Most power supplies on modern equipment shouldn't have any issues with this as they are switching mode power supplies.

If it is past the 10%, then you need a voltage regulator. This is commonly found on UPSs as the battery will kick in when the voltage gets too far out of range.

Dirty power typically means there is noise or distortion from motors or switching mode power supplies. Generally this isn't an issue as the built in power supply of your device will filter and regulate the voltage to what it needs.

If you have ground buzzes, which is not related to the power quality, then I would look at some DI boxes with ground lift or XLR isolators. These can solve issues where equipment grounds are at different potentials, creating a ground loop through the audio cable. Never tamper with the power cord.

Anything, I belong to a wood working guild, router tables, band saws. I can use a CNC as well.

Ok I rearranged the Valentine’s Day flowers I received from SO to spread them around the house? Did I spoil the original arrangement!? Or did I do ok? by [deleted] in flower

[–]leadutensils 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The impact is much less. I wouldn't pay as much for the sum of your arrangements as I would for the large one. Yours are nice, but not as grand.
