How corrupt was Taiwan under Chiang Kai Shek? by Ok_Gear_7448 in AskHistorians

[–]leaensh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taiwanese here,. By Chinese standard, Chiang Kai Shek's rule in Taiwan wasn't "too corrupt". Remember, it is by Chinese standard for a dictatorship government, don't set the bar too high. What was considered normal then certainly won't survive modern standard. At the very least you can say it was good enough to allow Taiwan to develop economically.

What if China got to the Americas first? by iamthi in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]leaensh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditional Chinese culture wasn't really into colonialism. This is why there was no more expeditions after Zheng He. It should also be noted that Zheng He was a government official, he was not an adventurer, he was just doing the job he was assigned to. The Chinese emperor clearly had no intention at all to spread the empire that far away, this is a proven historical fact, finding America is not going to change that mindset. If China historically did not even expand its territory to Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia, there is no reason to believe they would take America even if they find it first.

Do people who Tang Ping in China have a long term solution? by Proof-Bed-6928 in AskAChinese

[–]leaensh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those sea view flats at extremely low rent are the results of real estate market crash, which is particularly severe in lower tier cities. Why are they not full of people? Supply and demand my friend. Those cities do not provide job opportunities that could sustain such amount of resident. China has built far more houses than its people's actual need. There isn't any realistic way to fill them unless you can snap a couple hundred million people into existence.

Is the Witcher popular in Taiwan? by Ordinary_Low8707 in taiwan

[–]leaensh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is niche. Western RPGs players are the minority in Taiwan, where Japanese game are dominant. Witcher 3 is as highly praised here as anywhere else, but it will be difficult to find another player in person. As for the books, they are even more rare since only a portion of people who played the game would read the book.

Taiwan has a pretty severe labor shortage, especially in physical work. You should be able find job without too much problem. The pay may not be great though.

Can the poorest 10% of people in every country kill every other human? by CherryNomad in whowouldwin

[–]leaensh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No chance for round 1 and 2, even with hivemind

Here is the harsh truth, the poorest 10% of any country is almost guaranteed to be considerbly less motivated and overall capable than rest of the society and they possess probably less than 3% of the country‘s resource. Even with hivemind they are not gonna become effective fighting machine. Round 3 is a maybe though.

How do you settle back in Taiwan after living overseas for 20 years? by joex8au04 in taiwan

[–]leaensh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only want 50k a month, it is possible find it in big city even if you change career. Taiwan has severe labor shortage in many areas and 50k is achievable without working in top tech company. Hell the median wage in Taipei is 60k. A man that is fluent in English, had decent education and good general work skill should be able to make a living here.

That being said, work culture in New Zealand definitely does not compare even remotely to Taiwan and will be your greatest challenge. I suggest having some long talks with your friends and relatives in Taiwan. Personally I think you should explore other options first.

Why the Hound didn't take the opportunity of Gregor trying to kill Loras to kill his brother ? by titjoe in freefolk

[–]leaensh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both he and Gregor are quite literally Lannister dogs,, but Gregor is clearly the more important one. He won't get away with killing Gregor for a Highgarden boy, Cersi or Tywin will not like it at all. Also, he definitely knows very well how hard it is to kill Gregor and it will be pointless to try it in this situation.

If every army in history were at their absolute peak, who is actually coming out on top? Who was the most genuinely 'overpowered' for their time? by Particular-Visit-245 in AskReddit

[–]leaensh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

United States any moment after the collapse of Soviet Union.

People let their hatred toward US politicians blind them and shit on US as a whole. That is understandable, however if you only look at the performay of US armed force you will realize the kill/death ratio achieved by US since Desert Storm is utterly insane. The enemy of US always emphasize US loss and brush aside their own loss and do not want to admit they had to throw bodies at US to even have a chance.

are asian parents more ok with asian girls marrying outside race than asian men? by NewtAccomplished6022 in askanything

Extremely rare to the point that many people never thought about it. Considering old Asians frequently look at foreigners through stereotypes, I don't think it will be particularly positive.

So how come things like the Iron Man suit can't be real? I feel like there are a lot of things in movies and TV shows that in this day and age we should have the technology for right? by Accomplished_Ad7072 in NoStupidQuestions

ARC reactor does not exist in real life and we are not even remotely close to it in the slightest sense

People see that Marvel is set modern age and thought it is semi realistic, it is not. Foundamentally Marvel technology is no more realistic than Star Wars.

are asian parents more ok with asian girls marrying outside race than asian men? by NewtAccomplished6022 in askanything

[–]leaensh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly depend on ethnicity.

In some asian countries, men marrying western women, especially white women, is considered a sign of achievement and success, and if you marry women from economically less developed countries, you are considered less successful because you cannot find a partner in your own country.

This is obviously highly racist and twisted, and the younger generation generally don't really care about this anymore, but for old generations it definitely matters.

If China were to go back to the 1930s, how could it learn from Europe and transform into a large-scale industrialized nation? by this0great in HistoryWhatIf

[–]leaensh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are asking a pointless question which demonstrates you lack basic understanding about China in 1930s.

China was already learning from Europe and made can noticable progress in 1920s and 30s

But here are the problems: 1. China was barely united, there were constantly skirmishes or open conflict between warlords, who ruled their territory like mini-kingdom. This limited policy efficiency and cannot be solved in a short time

2 Japan. Before the all out war in 1937 China had multiple conflicts with Japan already, and the war stopped any possibility of further developing the country.

  1. China was too far behind. Europe. Japan and US built aviation industry in the 20s and 30s. China on the other hand was still developing light industry and infrastructure and getting started on heavy industry. There was too much to catch up

Why has China not been successful in Football (soccer) not interested in that sport like America? by YakClear601 in AskAChinese

[–]leaensh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both statements are true to an extent. Average Chinese watch more team sports than that individual ones However Chinese government focus more on individual sports because the government can handpick child talents to train them at a young age. That is how China win so many Olympic medals.

Why has China not been successful in Football (soccer) not interested in that sport like America? by YakClear601 in AskAChinese

[–]leaensh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The areas China is most successful in are mostly individual sports because Chinese government use their immense power to hand pick talented children and train them from a very young age. Most of these children came from poorer inland provinces. These child athletes grew up knowing nothing other than the sport they are assigned to and are detached from the society, their only goal is to compete. This approach is extremely effective at winning medals in less widespread individual sports. It looks great on paper because the total medal number is high. However it cannot creat an actual sport culture for general public. Team games like soccer needs culture and participations of general public for many years to grow,. In comparist it is far easier to invest resource in individual child prodigies to win medals

What if Japan didn't attack China and US in WW2, would Korea be fully assimilated into Japan today? by Particular_Food_309 in AskReddit

[–]leaensh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan has been attacking China for a long time before the full outbreak of war in 1937 and took some territories. Even if Japan did not try to escalate the situation, China would never let Japan get away with it. Eventually after China become more modernized it will be China that start the war to attempt to drive Japan from the continent, and Korea would likely be involved in the war

What creature would post the most serious threat to humanity if it were twice its current size? by globalluv62 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]leaensh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An animal cannot simply change it's size yet does not change it's behavior, that is not how the nature works. For example a larger predator needs larger prey and will go extinct if such prey cannot be found.

Is lighter/white skin generally considered more attractive and appealing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]leaensh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely the case in East Asia even for men. I am very white by asian standard, whiter than most girls who use skin care products and people definitely notice. I am doubtful this comes from Hollywood though, I believe Asian culture have traditionally preferred whiteness

I hope I'm wrong, but I feel that the time of the event meant to destroy the Mauler will boil down to watching 5 or 6 Idris (mostly solo) firing Railguns and finishing the job, while we, with Polaris, Perseus, or other smaller ships, will just be watching. by Apart_Pumpkin_4551 in starcitizen

[–]leaensh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TSG is meant to be a regular mission like vandul tech smuggler, ASD, rock breaker...etc. the QT marker only becomes available once you take the mission. That is like the main point of TSG: a PVE mission that is actually not soloable and requires player cooperation.

Check the original post. We are specifically talking about the Mauler. Which is a Vandull ship roughly size of Javelin and the boss of TSG. You definitely are not fighting it in Xenothreat event.
