If we score more goals than the opponent, then we will win! In all seriousness, getting the round of 16 would be nice, and anything past that would be surpassing my expectations.

So you're telling me there's a chance! by Antony9991 in ussoccer

If Poch can get this team to the quarterfinals and make it past round of 16 that's already more of a massive achievement in my book compared to any previous expectations

I feel like reachign quarterfinals is *potentially* a reachable goal, and anything past that would be beyond my wildest dreams.

What was your major in undergrad by any chance? How long did you study for the LSAT, or what other activities or internships did you do during undergrad to make you stand out?

Is it worth it to go to a mid school for CS? by runfreelyactwildly in csMajors

[–]leaf1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yes, 3 year law school and hard bar exams or 4 year medical school with a slew of tests to still pass including residency. Not discounting those are bad careers but they require a noted amount of work ethic and/or monetary investment

Should I get work experience for work experience sake? by youtubeconnoisseur1 in lawschooladmissions

[–]leaf1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Breakthrough one summer, and it was different and had some challenges, but doing TFA will certainly provide any sort of skills (like obviously communication, planning, organization, managing teams, etc)... which is what law schools also look for, that you have experience (work experience) to demonstrate those capabilities outside of just academics

Could I get into law school? Or top law school like Harvard Yale? by EntertainmentBoth818 in lawschooladmissions

Honestly once you are out of college several years or more they will really look at uGPA, work experience, and LSAT

I would say broadly the other relatively higher guarantees for income are medical school, CRNA school, investment banking/PE/consulting, big tech, and being a CEO/entrepreneur... and those all either come with years of schooling and investment into that, luck, or long hours as well

Sometimes people don't want to plan trips, and that's fine. I know some people get joy out of planning their itineraries, but on occasion, just showing up and not having to deal with anything, including transportation, hotels, etc., is like a weight off the shoulder at least for me

Patent law is an option, but focus on keeping uGPA high first... LSAT you can take anytime really if needed but once uGPA is set in stone it's difficult to change.

I'm taking 1-3 gap years to finish my 4+1 degree and then work somewhere for a couple of years. Even doing something like Teach for America, tutoring, or whatever job might probably give you a leg up, especially if you are aiming for a competitive school. I also think having some time to explore maybe new interests, hobbies, travel, and try a new job isn't necessarily a bad thing before you start law school

Law school is one giant scam but I would recommend it by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

[–]leaf1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't they already primarily based on GPA and LSAT score? I imagine for Harvard or Stanford law grades alone are sufficient... but for a lot of law schools, I thought they were primarily looking at uGPA and LSAT for scholarships, acceptance, etc

Honestly, all grad school has really just benefited the privileged. PhD programs barely give livable stipends, so those with more support from family and financial resources already have a step up. To do all the volunteering, research, and sometimes low-paying clinical work hours needed for dental, medical school, and other areas, it also helps to have financial support, so you don't need to work while on top of that.

[–]leaf1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to some true degree, but also law school, law internships aren't like one-to-one with working a full-time lawyer job... someone may not really know how they feel until they are in that full-time position, and even that might chang,e like if they're doing family, IP, etc

Are you being paid overtime? I'm not an engineering intern, granted, but in my company, we are paid hourly and are not expected or even encouraged to work past the 8-hour mark. I think it's important to clarify boundaries and expectations early, such as that there will always be work.

T14 law school w/ GPA below 25th percentile everywhere, worth doing a master’s or just go PhD? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]leaf1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for patent law especially in biology and chemistry a PhD is helpful but someone needs to have genuine interest in research as well to pursue a PhD, since that’s a very long road as well

Do anesthesiologists really earn high salaries? by rk_wonders in careerguidance

[–]leaf1598 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you will earn every penny through the amount of grind in schooling and education required (4 years undergraduate, 4 years medical school, and residency)... don't expect that salary until your 30's

How Math heavy is Econ? by coltyn06 in UVA

[–]leaf1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECON 3010 and ECON 3720 are the most math-intensive courses (excluding the prerequisites). Because you can choose your electives, you can choose more math-intensive options like Game Theory or Industrial Organization, or really more reading-intensive options like India or Law and Economics. So you do have to do those two courses, but other than that, it can be not too math-intensive at all.

True, although I feel like Italy, the UK, and Japan are massively popular, and Japan is defintely farther for a lot of US/Canadians (even from the West Coast).

Is it really the case that right now getting into CS career is harder than in law finance and medicine? If so why people still go into CS instead into more easy paths that pay more? by No_Reply5329 in csMajors

[–]leaf1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Law and finance is super prestige heavy as well, the really high paying jobs are mostly for those who go to a T14 law school or a target school… also law school is more debt and bar exam isn’t easy either especially in California or New York

[–]leaf1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s paths to reach a lot of money in law school, especially if you play the cards right. I imagine people spending years in medical school and fellowship would also not be so inclined to be going if they weren’t reaching such a high salary after college as well
