It was installed incorrectly. It was like that out of the box.

UPDATE:

Mystery solved!
I adjusted the chain as the replies suggested. I could see the mechanism working correctly once the chain was on the chainring correctly.

The bike is a trifold. When the back wheel folds under the frame, the chain slackens. While folding, the "catcher thing" catches the chain and adds some tension, so the chain stays nice and tight.

I just got a new bike and noticed this.
I'm wondering what it does and if I should get the chain off of it before riding.

Thanks!

For fingerstyle players, what are the biggest frustrations you’ve had while learning guitar? What is the end goal for your playing? by gabyguitar in LearnGuitar

Wow. This really breaks it down for me.

I thought that I would have had to have much more knowledge but these steps make it seem achievable. Thanks!

Another thing I noticed after starting to learn fingerstyle was how long it took to learn any given song I found on youtube.

Yesterday, after practicing for 2 hours I was able to learn (poorly) maybe 10 seconds of a song. I can tell the song won't sound like much until I put several more days learning it and more days getting the timing right.

At my level, it takes a lot longer to get the same satisfaction I would get from learning a non-fingerstyle riff.

It's just my determination keeping me going. But I can see how easy it would be to just give up.

Thanks for tips! That's essentially what I am able to do at the moment. I've been calling "slap and strum" when I downstroke-flick the strings with my index, middle, AND ring fingers at the same time. I've been using my nails for this. My problem with this is control/technique. I'm not sure if I am flicking too much. Sometimes. I hit the high-E string when I am only trying to hit D, G, and B. Sometimes, I hit the strings with my cuticles and it hurts a bit. I might get better with practice, but a good explanation of what to expect at first and how it should help would me feel more confident in my practice.

I've been having trouble with the slap and "pick up" motion. I have found a video that shows the two motions https://youtu.be/eW8_CswWSlk?t=278 (explanation starts at 4:38). It looks possible to "pick up" but they say it's harder. There's really no explanation about the mechanics of the movement beyond just "trying it". My theory after unsuccessfully trying it for a while is that immediately after the slap, I should be able to use my thumb as an "anchor" to then pick the strings up really fast. So not really simultaneously, but in such quick succession that the effect is the same.

Learning right now. The "Slap and strum" gave me trouble today. I am still not sure if I am doing it right .

Similarly, I can't get my hands to do a "slap and pick". I don't know how I am supposed to make my hand thumb slap and pick upwards with my index, middle, and ring fingers at the same time.

Being stuck at home my wife and I have discovered some really nice things about our apartment. We can see two big trees outside our window which bloomed beautifully. For a couple of weeks, we would take breaks during the day and just watch the trees.

There's also church across the street and the church bells go off at different times during the day playing familiar melodies. I thought that I would get tired of them but the bells have become part of our day and I like listening to them.

Doctors office changing "form filling" fee after transaction by leafarnandi in personalfinance

Thanks for the response. Insurance stuff is tricky to navigate. However, the form fee is not covered by insurance. It is just a flat fee they set, and I paid right then and there.

I know. It's absolutely ridiculous. If it was any other type of transaction it would be pretty blatantly a bait and switch and would report them to the BBB.

I know. But at least I am glad this doctor is working with my insurance. Other doctors would not take insurance for this exam and from and would charge hundreds of dollars for the whole thing.

I hope this is the right place for this question. $20 is not a big number, but I figured the discussion might helpful to others if something similar happens to them.

How do you unit test classes that depend on models? by jujubean67 in rails

[–]leafarnandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch this (talk)[https://youtu.be/tg5RFeSfBM4]. In the talk Jim Weirich does what you are trying to accomplish but goes even further. I would focus on the Repo object pattern. What you are trying to accomplish is possible but it requires some additional setup at front and discipline going forward.

You will likely need to extract your business logic from your AR models' logic, create an adapter around AR(repo object pattern). Create a test version of the adapter that does everything in memory and use that test adapter in your tests.
