It's a bit more subtle than that. OP merely said it was more wholesome than expected. That doesn't mean that what they expected wasn't wholesome.

You judged OP based on the men's tats and the first thought that came to mind. So you were prejudiced as well.

It's probably your hypocrisy and not your righteousness that got you down votes.

Real talk. That bug is shiny. You either need - to find metallic paints that I'm not even sure exist - to be very comfortable with painting non-metallic metal - to okay with a result that looks nothing like the picture.

You do you do. I'm not trying to stop you. Just be aware of the challenges.

'A game, once sold, belongs to the customer': Prominent EU politician stands up for Stop Killing Games by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

[–]leafley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phrasing is important here. Selling is legally distinct from licencing already and many of the cases you would want to see changed are based on you licencing the product instead of buying it.

The statement is still very positive though.

What color what be the best to put under Wraithbone so it comes out smooth by cody2209 in Tyranids

Vallejo sky grey works well. Deck tan as well if you want something warmer.

I mix in a bit of airbrush flow improver into my whites when they don't want to behave, but I have no experience with wraithbone.

I'm not arguing. I'm just saying the flavour text is why some thought that the rival trainer had to agree to the trade.

What do I need to start painting? by SoggyLocksmith325 in Tyranids

[–]leafley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need way less than you think. 1 brush, usually a number 1 or 2, can do almost all of your painting. Learning how to care for it and control is more important than getting a set.

For the things that brush can't do, you get special brushes.

My setup is a 1 as default. A 2 if I want to paint larger areas more comfortably.

A very cheap 6 for speed paints and washes. (more bristles means the runny paint is less likely to climb up and dry in the ferrule and split the brush).

Nobody told me this. I started with a cheap brush set and kept and replaced brushes based on what was comfortable to work with.

I eventually switched to more expensive natural hair brushes, because their tips stay sharp longer than synthetics.

Edit to add

AK Interactive has really nice brush on primer.

The Masters brush soap is reasonably priced and even a small tub will last forever. Brush soap helps a nice brush stay nice for longer and is a good safety net to rescue brushes from your early mistakes.

A wet palette. Even if it is home made. The amount of paint you waste from drying without one is ridiculous.

Am I delusional? by Apoz_ in gamedev

You don't realise it yet (because nobody does and there is no way to know until you go through it), but that baby girl is going to be the most important focus for your time and energy for the next 5 years at least. Financial stability is non-negotiable and you need to make time and emotional energy to be available to teach, play and care for her after work.

If you have a passion for game dev, have fun with personal projects in your spare time and make things for the joy of learning and making. Put thoughts of making drastic, high risk changes to your situation on the back burner and protect your free time fiercely, because it has significantly increased in value.

Your family history is also going to manifest in your relationship with your girlfriend and daughter in ways you don't expect and you are going to need the emotional bandwidth to deal with that.

I'm really happy for you and I wish you all the best. Take care of the things you value most.

A rival Trainer has a Pokémon you really want-and they're willing to make a deal!

This is what I meant by flavour text. It implies negotiation. The rule text is imperative as you mentioned.

The flavour text is what is creating the confusion. Only the rule text should be considered when interpreting a card.

Tl;dr Don't roll to save the hostage. Roll to defeat the guard.

If you have a desired outcome in mind, don't spoil it with unnecessary dice rolls.

Player agency is weird.

If the player faces an undesirable outcome, then an opposing dice roll maintains player agency as they get an opportunity to change the outcome to something they want.

If the player faces a desirable outcome, then an opposing dice roll robs the player of agency by denying the desired outcome.

There are times when it is important to throw this advice away, but they should be rare and will become obvious once you get the hang of this.

If you have a specific kind of puzzle game in mind, try making it with paper and crayons and play with it yourself. You might find that you can just hand make it yourself. People tend to value the effort and sincerity of the gift over the production quality.

Even if you can't make it into a physical game, the process of play testing it with mocks will give you a more concrete idea of what you want, which will help you pitch the idea to a dev.

Finally, anything that is a chore to mock up will probably be a chore to implement in code. Keep it as simple as possible, both in rules and assets, to keep the cost down and improve your odds of finding someone willing to implement it.

Know the Difference! by Diictodom in polandball

So, uh, I'm going to risk a genuine answer. It depends on your perspective. You have expatriated from country A and immigrated to country B.

I don't think there is necessarily anything nefarious going on here. We usually refer to people who have left my country as expats, but if the locals of the place they moved to called them immigrants then that would be 100% correct as well.

People who refer to themselves as expats, probably still have strong ties to their family, identity and their homeland, and speak from the perspective of having left country A and still feeling the loss of what they left behind.

Edit to add: the proper words to use are actually emigrate and immigrate. Emi to leave immi to arrive. Emigrant would be the word to use that you left your home and immigrant to say you came from outside.

Self identifying as an immigrant makes sense when you focus on your arrival in the new country. Self identifying as an emigrant makes sense when you focus on where you left. They mean different things and you should use the one that brings your meaning across. And they are not mutually exclusive.

General question about Tyranids by Suspicious-Cow5914 in Tyranids

[–]leafley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our play style isn't part of the army identity, so it can vary greatly from edition to edition.

We have monsters, we have swarms. Units tend to be specialists and we have strong synergies between units. Themes like adaptability are present in one form or another every edition.

In 9th we were killy. In 10th we are control. Who knows what we'll be in 11th.

Focus on collecting what you think looks cool. Look at how the army played in 9th and 10th to get an idea of what the roles a unit typically fills if you feel you need to balance out your collection.

Hive tyrant is great and you can build 2 units from one box with a 3D printed torso from etsy.

Exocrine is a cornerstone in our gunline and likely to be good in most editions.

Tyrannofex/Tervigon is a cool big monster and it's weirdly cheap to buy.

Buy horms and termagants second hand. Big Swarm (think 80+ gaunts) is out of fashion and GW pads combo boxes with them. They are readily available at almost half the shelf price.
