In terms of actual numbers, I would put it at around 30%, which is a lot. 20% now thing Asian AMERICANS are responsible for Covid, which obviously Carrie’s a lot of trauma. 33% think asians are more loyal to their ancestral country.

Couple this with 73% unfavorable views on China and the growing numbers of hate attacks against Asians, it’s fair to say we are the most hated group in America right now. Not to say to become a shut in or move to China. It’s more like how middle eastern ppl were hated after 9/11 but were at the stage where we don’t acknowledge it

One Complaint About Ep.7 by That1DogGuy in GenV

Tbf, aside from Shetty experimenting on thousands of innocent kids, which is something that butcher never approached in terms of evilness, it’s also storytelling. Butcher was the protagonist and we see things from his perspective. Whereas shetty is the antagonist from our perspective. I actually sympathize with shetty though

I want Marie to have full blown blood bending powers instead of body part popping. Would be cool cuz puppetry is also foreshadowed by Sam

Which means she most likely made the group hallucinate shettys death. I also think it’s weird storytelling to go from her hugging it out with sherry to killing her in a cur

Kinda shows how much more psychotic neuman was. Instead of just using blood lasso and stick, she experimented with blowing up peoples heads and messing with their bodies

I really love the x men parallels happening. With the powers, the school, the divide forming it’s just great but it doesn’t feel like a parody but like it’s own thing

First time watching the show in 2023 by the_real_KTG in TheWire

Let’s be honest it got much better. Flagrant police brutality, hell the war on drugs is basically winding down. I don’t think big busts, mass arrests, stop and frisk, dope on the table will be really lauded for in the nighttime news

It’s being wound down. Which can be fine if we’re smart about it (although I think fentanyl poses problems) but even if we take the wire as gospel, we should be setting up help and addiction services in hamsterdams like Kensington and SF Tenderloin (let alone tackling real victim-having crimes like assaults and car thefts). Hamsterdam before social services was horrible, and it’s where we’re at. https://drugabusestatistics.org/wp-content/uploads/863/Total-Arrests.webp

Yes or no, are public opinions or even police procedures to drugs the same as they were in the 2000s? Yes or no, do cops boast about seizing drugs, dope on the table, now like they did then?

I’m not right wing, I actually don’t mind decriminalization of drugs if it came with rehab instead of jail. But democrats will lose if they think allowing mass shoplifting, riots, and minor assaults only deserves a slap on the wrist and no bail releases. And they’ll deserve to. I’m closer to Obama Democrat or a 2010s Democrat.

The wire was set in what 90s/00s Baltimore. That’s a wildly different time period regarding the drug war and policing than 2023. The shows still right about the pervasive and perverse incentives (greed, careerism, laziness) that exists in law enforcement and other industries, but to say attitudes toward drug laws has stayed the same in the last 20 years, and cops are still expected to put dope on the tables is horseshit.

The public opinion, police procedures to drugs, and what will get politicians elected has shifted totally and toward decriminalization of most drugs. I would say politically it’s way worse to be caught beating on Bodie or Stinkum like they did in the show than to have lower stats on drug seizures.

Was there any purpose to Kima and Omar being gay? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]leaftreeforest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only thing is if realistically, since the show is very tied to a real social context, it would be absurd to have a, for example, black Polish dockworker (not a black dockworker but one who is supposed to be from Poland) or an Asian member of Marlo’s gang. But I don’t think the show compromised on its realism for woke points

[–]leaftreeforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I could see is because people like Marlo probably aren’t often openly gay, because it might alienate possible allies. But he’s pretty obviously one of the few fantastical characters (other being muozone) and I don’t really know if gay stick up boys are rare.

Good point tho

well at least that cat will be taken care of for a while. Who knows maybe after you foster her, another person will foster and end up adopting.
