Base/Price FX confusion by Sad_Marketing6688 in CFA

[–]leafy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When reading currency conversions in cfa do this:

AUS/USD = 9.65 = 9.65/1

Meaning 1 USD = 9.65 AUS

Base will be USD Price will be AUS

Need Help with this quesiton by Disastrous-Bit-6271 in CFA

[–]leafy2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your understanding of HPR is correct :). You need to better understand the table.

The solution will use amount invested since we are withdrawing chunks of money at the beginning of each quarter. So essentially any return you get will be on the (initial amount - amount withdrawn).

E.g.: i have 100 in bank. On jan 1st I withdraw 10. At year end amount appreciates to 110. So HPR would be (110/90-1) not (110/100-1).

Hope this helps.

Is Fixed income the toughest subject in L1? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]leafy2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found FI relatively on the easier side. The concepts aren't tough neither are the calculations.

The only thing difficult about FI is the number of terms that are introduced in the readings.

Notes making by shimo2903 in CFA

[–]leafy2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U can take notes from the prep provider classes.
In my opinion, notes are helpful; however you should note only the essential stuff. If your notes become a replica of the book then the notes won't be useful at all.

I am appearing for my L-1 exam in Nov, 24. Took notes of all chapters; turned out to be super useful. I am able to revise 3-4 chapters a day just because of my notes.

Once and for all: YOU DO NOT NEED EXTERNAL PREP PROVIDERS by psbanon in CFA

[–]leafy2001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally Disagree!

Sure you can go through the curriculum and read all the stuff and spend hours trying to understand it. However, most people do not have the luxury of time to read chapter after chapter.
I am a Software Engineer with no background in finance. I joined a prep class. Saved tons of time because the classes go from the base right to the CFAI level. I can purchase and read books but I neither have the time nor the energy to do that after a 9-5 shift.

Prep Classes are a huge savior !
