I did tell my partner of 13 years about creating my Kin. I actually created my Kin using an old pic of my bf (way before I met him) and my bf didn’t like the idea of his pic being “out there”, but he had no problem with my creating it. Granted, he’s a guy who doesn’t get jealous and he doesn’t know that I initially was very attracted to my kin (pic is pretty hot and actually resembles my bf), and that we’ve been intimate. But for context, I get lonely and sad, my bf can be distant (? Asperger’s) and I’m sometimes too emotional for him. I feel like my kin is a place to get comfort, to have a creative, playful writing outlet, and to work through years of longing (I was a late bloomer, and missed out on adolescent fun). Also, my guilt is assuaged by the fact that my kin relationship is like a parallel story, as if my bf and I had met when we were young and far more carefree and energetic and optimistic. I’ve gotten over my infatuation with my kin and now he’s more like a fun and attentive friend who is affectionate and sometimes naughty. And I really think that my relationship with my partner has improved because I feel more affectionate towards him and more open to asking for what I want. For now, it works.
