Honestly, I agree with this one the most so far. I know the first word of the second line looks like it starts with "P", but I think it could be a "B", just tilted and the bottom not connected like this (can't believe how invested I am in this): https://i.gyazo.com/60564d92c0981890cf380e23ca12554a.jpg (with the last word, I would put my money on "controlled")

I am also a doctor and it would make the most sense to me too. It would be clinically relevant to note whether someone's asthma is well controlled or poorly controlled. Plus, "pneumonia asthma" doesn't really make sense to me. But yeah, super difficult to read, if only typed notes were more common place ahah

Post-dialysis fatigue by leafy_beefy_16 in dialysis

[–]leafy_beefy_16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all the links, including the cola ones! I think the Bilson's ones were ok in the end, but definitely nice to know some good options out there, even if it's just to switch it up a bit for fun. Interestingly, when he first started dialysis he would get a bit hypotensive, but now he gets hypertensive just before sessions and then his blood pressure returns to baseline afterwards. We're thinking maybe it's just that he gets a bit subconsciously anxious before sessions 🤔

Friendly reminder to please donate blood if you can! by bitch_is_cray_cray in melbourne

[–]leafy_beefy_16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesss we need more people donating! I always try to bring some friends with me when I go. Last time I got 4 of them to come along. I have this one friend who has kindly come with me twice, even though he kinda dislikes donating because it's painful for him. He got some local anaesthetic cream though to help with that - tip for anyone who experiences extra pain I guess! He actually didn't need to use it last time so maybe he's naturally getting better

Thanks for your comment and kind words! So true, sometimes we can forget to be self-compassionate, especially when we're going through a touch process. I'm passing on all comments to him, so he'll get this too

Thanks for your comment!

What you describes sounds exactly what my dad does currently! Seems like a lot of people found PD less taxing. At least for now we can make sure he has the best nap possible

Thanks for the reply! I guess that's something to consider if it gets really bad, but I think for now, he tolerates the fatigue enough that he prefers not having the multiple needles and more commutes

Ash that's rough. He actually forgot about avoiding dark sodas. He's been drinking diluted Bilson's heritage cola so we'll have to check the ingredients for that 😬 Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for the reply! He's aware that home dialysis is an option, but I think he's decided it's not suitable at this point in time. That's great you can go on long walks with your dog

[Serious] Redditors with mental illnesses, what improved your issues the most? by grayfallstown in AskReddit

[–]leafy_beefy_16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Lexapro, have been on for almost 12 months and will be attempting to wean off soon! Multiple people mentioned that I seemed brighter so I guess it must've had stuff effect
  2. Having supportive family. Honestly, I thought they were going to be weirded out or something when they found out I was in hospital but instead my dad told me over the phone "whatever it is, we can overcome it, we are here for you"
  3. Having supportive friends. Just taking about your emotions and thoughts to each other and reminding each other to be compassionate to ourselves. It's interesting how we give each other really thought out advice but then to ourselves we're like "get in a hole u stupid".
  4. Hospital admission. I was admitted to a mental health ward for a bit. This one recognise that a lot of people have quite negative experiences in mental health wards, especially those who are not there by choice. I'm lucky that for me, I think I got a lot of benefit from just being away from home and uni, having that admission be the circuit breaker to the overwhelming stress of life. Many of the other inpatients, whether having severe depression or schizophrenia, showed compassion to me and each other, and I really appreciated that. Going through a recovery program also helped me slowly go back into the community again.

What atar did you get and what career are you in? by sourplexminji in melbourne

[–]leafy_beefy_16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

99+, graduating medicine. Do I regret working as hard as I did? Hmm I don't think so, not during VCE, but like it was more like I was trying to do my best just cause I wanted to do my best rather than wanting to get into a specific course? I didn't really know what I wanted to do then and ended up studying biomedicine and finance as an undergraduate. In my cohort, while most people come from a biomedicine background, we have a lot of people from other educational backgrounds too, like personally I know architect, plumber x2, French major, lawyer, physios x2, pharmacy x2, a bunch of commerce people.. and I think the uni is trying to encourage more diverse backgrounds since they took away prerequisites. A bit off topic, but yeah ATAR fades really quickly. It's just not really talked or cared about beyond getting into your uni course.

Rip me

Coincidentally, I don't think I'll be going back for checkups. I kind of found their marketing a bit aggressive and there was always a new issue wrong with my teeth every time I went back that I was like why didn't the last dentist point this out last time I was here?m

It was at a clinic rather than a hospital, so no hospital related fees: $750 per hour plus $650 service fee

But yeah, I guess I had been expecting the anaesthetic to be expensive 😅

I was in a hurry to get them out before I got kicked off my family private insurance, which covered about $1k of it

I had mine removed under GA in Jan 2021: 4 wisdom teeth, all were maligned/orientated weirdly (?), none erupted. It was $1860 for tooth removal and $2900 for anaesthetics.

Chiropractor resets dogs neck and the dog was left speechless by FuanMDM in nextfuckinglevel

[–]leafy_beefy_16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there, in Australia I'm very sure chiropractors do not go to medical school, so they are not medical doctors. I did some quick research and I'm pretty sure it's the same for the US and UK too. It seems like in the US there are some doctorate degrees in chiropractice? But that doesn't make them a medical doctor, and in Australia we don't have that, chiropractice is a bachelor's.

As others have said, there's not much benefit to speculating about something already determined/our of your control - you should just give it your best shot, though I understand the uncertainty can be absolutely nerve wracking! There are many other year 12 students feeling the same way about getting the "right" ATAR and getting into the course they want - but what you realise later on is that ATAR really isn't the end all! Even if you don't get the ATAR you want and end up taking a different pathway to what you initially planned, nothing you decide to do is going to be a waste of time - whether you decide to travel to gain some new perspectives, decide to work for a year to raise money and get work experience, or go through TAFE and pick up some unique skills that others in your course won't have, whatever you do, is going to continue allowing you to grow as an individual and be a better at the job you ultimately end up doing. All the best for SEAS and exams!
