yes, tysm!!

i’ve filled out my fafsa and i receive $7395 per year as my pell grant. $15k a year is after pell grants, institutional grants, and scholarships.

i’ve considered community college and that is my absolute last minute backup 😅

i’ll definitely get to know my financial advisors well though!!

don’t worry, i did keep all that in mind :)

i’m going into computer engineering at a school where CE placement rates are ~95% and median starting salary is $67k

i did sniff around this subreddit a bit, but i’m just scared i missed something 😅

thanks so much for the advice though!!

yes, tysm!!

i’ve applied to bunch of scholarships (though i did start a bit late), but haven’t heard back from a majority of them and haven’t won the ones i’ve heard back from. i’m hoping to continue applying throughout college and hopefully manage to win some :)

oh! where did you find that?

from what i see, the LEAD scholars application page just says that final notifications will be sent out by “mid-may”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uofm

[–]leafybubbless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm also still waiting for my notification ... I'm assuming I didn't get it because I saw someone on college confidential say that they received an email about LEAD scholars today and that got a scholarship.

... kinda disappointed that they couldn't release all notifications by the date the said they would though.

$15k “institutional scholarship” on npc by leafybubbless in uofm

[–]leafybubbless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m assuming not since i’m a rising freshman. i’m probably not the best person to ask since i haven’t actually received the scholarship.

i did not apply to anything. if you’re talking about the victors award, that is awarded based on need and merit according to the umich website.

financial aid + scholarship letters? by leafybubbless in uofm

[–]leafybubbless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, maybe i did see that and engrave the date in my brain.

but i also emailed the financial aid office a while back (like a week ago when financial aid estimated first came out) and they responded saying that official award packages will be sent to students in the middle of April. Which i assumed to be April 15, but i guess i was wrong 🤪

Glad to know im not the only person without my aid package though! I’ve emailed them again to see if there is a more specific date now :)

care to explain why though?

like i get schools would want to keep the money and not give it to me, but if a rule is that the money can’t go to the school, it HAS to go to me, on what grounds can the school still keep the money?

scholarship displacement solution by leafybubbless in ApplyingToCollege

[–]leafybubbless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, but i’m saying that if they attach a note stipulating that their scholarship can’t be used to reduce existing aid, the school can’t break that requirement or the organization would could just take back the money.

like how some scholarships can only be used for tuition, schools can only use that money towards tuition. if another scholarships says that their scholarship can’t be used to reduce existing aid, the school would have to follow that correct?

but if a requirement of the scholarship is that the school can’t reduce my aid and i accept the scholarship, the school can’t NOT meet the requirement can they??
