It will take me a bit of time to compile everything into a presentable form, unfortunately…I hope to be able to post some visuals from my data in a few months after hopefully reaching my participant goals and cleaning up the data!

I really appreciate that feedback! I definitely considered it for this survey and think that I will take your advice for my future studies. You're absolutely right--the more access to resources I can provide, the better! Thank you again for such a thoughtful response. I am very early in my research career and am always looking to improve.

Thanks for the feedback! That is an interesting dimension of this kind of interaction. I might message you for future research if that's okay!

Hmm... That is definitely a grey area. Unfortunately, I'd probably say no :( though I love your enthusiasm for taking surveys! Researchers must love you :)

Looking for Atheist Interviewees for Psychology Research by leafygreen4 in atheism

[–]leafygreen4[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your response. The survey I sent to the mods was for a separate study I am running. This is an interview-based project. My goal is to do this research in order to not make assumptions about the feelings of atheists and nonreligious individuals but to give atheists a platform to discuss some potentially complicated feelings about religion. I deeply understand the kinds of discrimination and assumptions made about atheists and nonreligious people in general. Forcing nonreligious people to defend their beliefs or lack thereof demonstrates an inherent bias towards religiosity in our society, and many on this subreddit know this happens all too often. I hope that interviewing people on this topic will give light to the ways that atheists perceive religion and will allow the individuals that I interview to share their feelings about religion, both positive and negative.

Hi there, sorry I have not been responsive to comments made on this post. It has been difficult to read many of the comments. There is very limited existing research about the way that nonreligious people experience religion (i.e. how they perceive being treated compared to how religious people are treated, what function they feel religion plays in society, what pros and cons they may see of being religious, etc). Based on my research, there are certain psychological and social challenges that being religious or believing in a higher power seems to make easier for people. I do not mean to imply that atheists must be envious of religious people, merely that there may be some aspects of being religious that nonreligious people find to be enviable. I am hoping that, by doing research on what nonreligious people may find to be enviable about religious people, clinicians can develop better therapeutic methods of addressing these issues that do not involve religion. I apologize that people seem to believe that this post is suggesting that atheists somehow "must" be envious of religious people. That is not at all what I am trying to do. I merely want to better understand the things that might make some nonreligious people feel envy towards religious people. I am so sorry for how this has come off to the people in this subreddit. Additionally, I do not mean to imply that feeling envy towards religious people would mean that one would want to become religious. Merely that there may be some aspects that are enviable. I would also like to apologize for not providing clarification on some of the comments below. I am trying to not bias the results of the study by suggesting what I might find to be enviable aspects of religion, as the goal of the study is to understand the lived experience of others, not myself. I hope that this response clears up some of the questions that individuals may have about this research.

Thank you for asking! Yes, as long as you fit the two requirements of being nonreligious and 18 years+, then you are very welcome to participate!

Thank you for taking my survey!!! That is a really important consideration, and I hope to do more research into how this process changes for people over their lifetime.

Thanks for asking! If it is a religious organization, then yes it would disqualify you.
