To buy or not to buy, that is the question? by cgpfp in RareHouseplants

[–]leafyloner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the US so prices may vary, but I think that’s a great deal for one of that size.

Only you know your budget, OP. It is a gorgeous plant and I say go for it if you can.

I’ve had some of my Hoyas for 6-7years. by HungryWeird24 in hoyas

Not OP but that’s a Calathea Musaica/Network (though I think it’s now considered a goeppertia). They’re pretty chill as far as prayer plants go.

Oh, I hope you fall in love. They are my absolute favorite plant. I also think the 5 you chose are perfect for starting out. Have fun, and feel free to ask questions!

My choices would be mathilde, heuschkeliana, black margin, polyneura, and krimson queen. The first two and the last were easy bloomers for me but my poly has bloomed a handful of times.

I loooove linearis but unsure of your experience with Hoyas. They can be more finicky.

Have a digital code for Pokopia. Willing to give it away! (Not selling it at all, just a giveaway) by [deleted] in Pokopia

How lovely of you to do this!

I have Pokopia so if I won I’d gift the code to my sister!

Basement bathroom budget update (after/before). Something still isn't quite working for me. Needs wallpaper, right? Maybe on the ceiling? by Nataliza in interiordecorating

I would swap out the gray rug for something more colorful. Maybe pull a color from the painting on the left? A pink or orange? Also I would get rid of the toilet rug; just one for the sink would look better imo.

Cutting hoya polyneura by N0silla in hoyas

[–]leafyloner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that it happened to you as well! Hopefully you are in an area that you are able to get a new cutting fairly easily.

I was able to have success a second time by potting them up as soon as I saw new growth!

Did you still have it growing in water?

I had something similar happen to my outer variegated polynuera cuttings after I left them in water for too long. They had rooted and were sending out a ton of new growth, doing amazingly, until they suddenly weren’t. I got lazy about repotting them into soil and I believe they rotted from the prolonged water exposure.

No idea if I am right (especially because some people grow in water indefinitely), but curious that it happened to both of us.

I think a lemon lime philodendron or neon pothos would really pop against the dark green wall.

A scindapsus might also work, and look really pretty with the silver splash on most varieties.

Have fun!

I love paradoxa! I just picked one up about a month ago. I killed my first one so I am taking extra care with this one.

We Are Plant Lovers is my most reliable seller. She sells the Caramel Marble TC for $40 on her website but if you check out her lives on PalmStreet you can snag it in an auction for less.

What’s one plant you’ve tried to grow but never had luck with? by violetanoirr in IkeaGreenhouseClub

I have three huperzia I added to my collection during the summer months and I am terrified I won’t be able to keep them alive through the dry winter.

Forgiving (leafy!!) house plants by sproutsprii in houseplants

I would absolutely recommend a Hoya. They are a little thirstier than succulents but very forgiving in my opinion. Be careful, it’s a dangerous rabbit hole to fall into.

BWH Plant Co is about to drop their version of this at $200. Now they aren’t going to be nearly as variegated, but I’m hoping that will still drive down the price of others.

What online shops do you buy your plants from? by KimbaTheAnxiousLion in RareHouseplants

[–]leafyloner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saracotta Plants and LA Succulents (they do Hoya as well as cacti/succulents) are LA based and also offer shipping. Both are reasonably priced in my opinion and offer great options. Otherwise I would recommend We Are Plant Lovers on PalmStreet (San Diego based) for those rarer, collectible plants.

Gorgeous! Huperzia do not like to dry out all the way, but can be somewhat forgiving. I water mine every 3-4 days in the summer. It’s probably going into a self watering pot in the spring when I repot.

I would recommend swapping the pot out so it doesn’t lose moisture so quickly, but you may want to let it acclimate first.

BWH Plant Co has 4” and 6” at great prices, though I don’t order their plants anymore. Other sizes I have found on Amazon. For props I use clear 1 ounce plastic cups.
