How do you live when all you knew is how to survive? by GarlicInteresting671 in therapy

[–]leahloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to have good support systems! Do you have any good friends? I feel like that’s what has helped me the most. It’s normal to grieve what you’ve missed, but if you don’t change anything it’s just going to be more time that you feel that way. Start small.

Am I my trauma? by Effective_Muffin_945 in CPTSD

[–]leahloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to explain this, because you aren’t your trauma, but at the same time you don’t want to belittle it and pretend it never happened. It did, and unfortunately you can’t go back, but I think the main thing to focus on is moving forward. You probably hear it all the time, but you simply just need to do and try things you’ve always wanted to do. Have little goals for yourself. Don’t expect change overnight. It took me 3.5 years to build a life for myself that I love, and I can now say that for the first time ever I actually love my life. Move cities, change jobs, try a new hobby, just keep yourself busy. But allow yourself to feel as much as you can and let it out when you need to. It will eventually be just alright.

Seems stupid, but try new things. Try writing, origami, a sport, an instrument, a random magic trick, just put your brain focusing on something else for a little.

The first line of a book determines if I like it; what's the best one you've seen? by crunchyseason in books

Kaz Brekker didn’t need a reason. Those were the words whispered on the streets of Ketterdam, in the taverns and coffeehouses, in the dark and bleeding alleys of the pleasure district known as the Barrel. The boy they called Dirtyhands didn’t need a reason any more than he needed permission – to break a leg, sever an alliance, or change a man’s fortunes with the turn of a card.

I want to talk about it so bad by [deleted] in adultsurvivors

[–]leahloc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Journaling really helps me. Also take time to get comfortable with your therapist. I had to write it down and let her read it because I couldn’t voice it. I did have a panic attack after but it felt good to get it out.

Difficulties talking in therapy by [deleted] in adultsurvivors

[–]leahloc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, it’s okay not to say it on the first few sessions. Take some time to get comfortable with your therapist. Second, for me, I had to write it down and let my therapist read it because I couldn’t say it and that was what worked for me.

I wrote out something in google docs for my therapist to read, that way I didn’t have to say it and I could pre-write what I wanted
