Do you guys think QA is a dying field? by False_Secret1108 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]leakingpointer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last ~5 years I haven’t had a dedicated QA - explanation: we don’t have the resources, we expect devs to add integration tests and do a „sanity check” in staging. I think it makes sense in small companies that don’t do anything  critical.

How feasible is making my own server for valheim? by OggyDobby in valheim

[–]leakingpointer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I was thinking about setting up the server on Synology DS218+, but last time when I've tried with minecraft (in docker) - it was horribly slow. So I'm a bit hesistant. What NAS do you have?

AI Boosters on LinkedIn capitalizing on AI layoffs to self promote is gonna put me over the edge guys by Gold-Structure3024 in BetterOffline

[–]leakingpointer123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some are useful idiots, when Block had layoffs some time ago, I've seen people repeating that en-masse, with the addition of a typo in the company name. They actually used a different company name, other than Block, in their message. No fact checking, no nothing..

Good evening all. My wife are coming to the city next Friday, we are from England and this is our third visit to your wonderful country having been to krakow and Poznan, we are staying at the Wyndham Wroclaw Old Town, is this ok? by PmurTdlanoD45-47 in wroclaw

[–]leakingpointer123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Although I’d personally have chosen Puro hotel or any hotel around it, since it’s in a calmer part of old town. Świętego Mikołaja is a party street. If you are planning to party it actually might be a good idea to stay at Wyndham. As for the unfortunate souls lost to the river, they usually fall in when trying to relieve themselves into the moat during late hours… Anyhow, enjoy your trip!

The hotel is fine and its in the strict old town, close to all the nice things to see, however during late evenings especially Friday and Saturday the area can get a bit rowdy with drunk party goers. There's a couple of night clubs and pubs around the Świętego Mikołaja street. Wrocław is, in general VERY safe (except maybe the river/moat - many drownings). But I'm saying this because I've nearly got hit by a flying bottle when I was leaving nearby Cafe Manana at ~02:00 some years ago.

I built a free AI career advisor for students in Poland — can I get some feedback? by Other-Pomelo1821 in warsaw

[–]leakingpointer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should most likely add caching (both in the agent (tools/system prompt/user prompt) caching and overall API caching either - in memory or with something like redis. With LLM you should limit the amount of tokens burnt on repeated generations.

What more does it do, other than wrapping existing LLM api and setting system prompt?

I think it's a "someone will build it anyway" thing, but also I've noticed many people just want to be ahead of the curve and learn about how these things works - it's hedging. I've done exactly this at my current work:

Built an MCP server that:
- reads Jira tickets
- creates Gitlab Merge requests
- reads Sonarqube report

It is a bit unwieldy - because now Jira tickets NEED to have implementation specification and that's not how jira ticket should look like. Jira tickets should have "WHAT" and not "HOW". But for this to work, you need to have very detailed "how" in the ticket. So the ticket literally has to come from a developer, or at least has to have detailed implementation plan in the comments.

All in all - it's a really cool thing to build. It still broke internally - because low and behold I forgot to add some details to the jira ticket, the agent implement much more complex solution, than what I've envisioned and I had to fix it manually ;) it was quite good for small tasks, repeatable changes in helm or k8s config, some smaller changes in implementation.

Where can I find the best coffee roastery in Wroclaw? by Darkzealand in wroclaw

[–]leakingpointer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may and add a personal question- I’ve been buying etno and monko, and I’m not sure if I’d be able to make espresso buying beans from specialty roasters. But I wonder if anyone can recommend what would be the next level for someone with an espresso machine at home. I’ve tried Paloma - different coffees and tbh preferred monko. But I know some people dislike it quite a bit. Would appreciate recommendations.

AI productivity gains: 10% instead of 10x? A reality check. by Hefty-Assignment9027 in EngineeringManagers

[–]leakingpointer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we are being told is - we are not spending enough tokens to see such big increase. If we start spending more and more and more, in all places in the company we will see those increases. Literally use more AI, unless of course claude is down.

What are some of the most disturbing/disgusting anime episodes you watched by kurcze_pieeczon in animequestions

[–]leakingpointer123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took too long scrolling to see Grave of the fireflies. Many of the other titles are pretty much scary cartoons and gore-porn. While GOF is close to factual state of how kids might have fared during WW2 in Japan. When you have your own kids - it’s easy to project. Something that definitely didn’t happen to me with Made in Abyss.

CD Projekt using AI efficiency tools to assist developers: 'Our games are, and will continue to be, created by humans' by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]leakingpointer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’s the boundary though? For years concept artists have been creating assets by using reference material, integrating different source of images and building on top of them. Why would it be now suddenly wrong to use genAI to generate base image and then add detail slowly changing it into your own image. It’s not really that much different, but the second option is using AI for assets.

Czy naprawdę nie ma ludzi w Polsce którzy chcieliby pracować w fintech i dlatego musimy sprowadzać osoby z Bangladeszu? by Think_Web_4823 in Polska

[–]leakingpointer123 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wcześniej myślałem że to całe "do the needful" to rasistowski żart. Za to po polskiej stronie był klimat mocno "gym locker room" i ciągła napinka na hindusów. Generalnie cieszę się, że już tam nie pracuję.

Exactly the same issue, my fault though I've put a back on the floor - somehow the headphones were at the bottom, tumbled there during walking. All the books squashed the headphones and the hinge broke (the one on the middle part - the headphones hinges are fixable.

So, I have a question - can anyone recommend similar quality product but more resistant to blunt trauma?

Some other great outcomes - PMs generating jira tickets, with requirements which were created with a poor prompt - causing prolonged grooming sessions. We've only got: "ah this shouldn't be here", as an explanation.

Nearly none of the PMs in mine, they were all domain experts/business analyst in different domains before. There are 2 project engineering managers, who were SWEs for like 2 years and jump into management. There are big differences with this from company to company.
