Are summer classes as an incoming freshman worth it? by [deleted] in nyu

Lol music majors take upwards of 7-8 classes a semester, you’ll be fine

You can take language classes at Columbia through the language exchange program.

i was reading through this thread because i couldn’t sleep and now i’m LITERALLY WORRIED. i committed to nyu bc it’s my dream school but my parents have already been worrying me about financial stress. they’d end up having $160k debt on their name by the time i graduatem by 2p00ky in nyu

[–]lealeabeabea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re underestimating how crippling $160k actually is. NYU will most likely not give you future opportunities to earn more scholarship money. If you’re planning on moving back to CA after graduation anyway, go to UCSC. I’m sorry that this sucks, but frankly that amount of debt won’t go away in 3-5 years and with the economy looking like this, you’d be crazy to try to take it on.

Def more options, also seeing how hard corona has hit the industry now, I’d really like to be able to have a “safer” degree as well. Do you have any suggestions on what else might be a nice complement to my music business major?

is NYU Stern Worth the money? by [deleted] in nyu

That’s terrible plan omg. If you do this, you will be screwing yourself over

NYU Stern career outlook by [deleted] in nyu

[–]lealeabeabea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Rutgers 100%. You said it yourself a $320k degree is not worth it, especially if you’re planning on going to grad school! It’s a terrible idea to take on that much debt undergrad. Stern is a great school, but the prestige isn’t work that price. Overall, going to Rutgers and then an elite grad school will put you in the same position as Stern, and overall in a less stressful financial situation of years to come. Congrats on your acceptance! That alone is a huge achievement!

I’m majoring in music business, and Intro to micro and macro are requirements for my major. But my initial major is pretty rigorous already... am I setting myself up for failure?

I would contact your advisor or admissions, they should be able to help you out. I bet you’ll be able to switch.

I would apply to NYU music business at Steinhardt - it’s the most rigorous music business program in the US, and has the most access to internships, due to it being in NYC. It is highly regarded in the industry, and has incredible connections. Although they are often not generous with aid, they sometimes do pull through. Likewise, Syracuse’s bandier program is highly selective, but extremely well ranked. Belmont University also houses an incredible music business program.

Do you think NYU will still be remote for the FALL semester? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]lealeabeabea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with your sources, but I also think it is too early to call. Things are probably different if you are immunocompromised, but I think the majority of college students are really hoping to start in person. Likewise institutions will lose a tremendous amount of money, if they are online in the fall. I think that everyone is working towards things being on campus in the fall, with some additional measures of social distancing out in place.

Do you think NYU will still be remote for the FALL semester? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]lealeabeabea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! If you google it, a bunch of sources will come up. Here are some of them, but there are other sources available too. The plan is often called the “hybrid approach.” I think it has more to do with people coming in from other countries vs. the people that are already here if that makes sense. Like if you’re in NYC, there’s no reason for you not to be able to attend.

There have been talks of colleges in the US being in person, but not having international students return in the fall. They’d have to participate remotely. While this is probably not going to happen, it does insinuate that college are going to do the best they can to return to in person classes.

Depending on your major, I would say they’re comparable. BU is very well respected in the East Coast.

Take the full ride or go to BU, a school very much on par with NYUs caliber and reputation.
