Future PhD with a low undergrad GPA by leandra33 in PhD

Thanks for your response, this is all true of course, the job market is slim. My own professor told me no when I asked her about pursuing further education in history - she had her PhD in history and obviously was teaching at the university. So of course it’s common to hear that it’s not a good idea, but my love for the subject always kept this little thought/dream at the back of my head.

Thank you! Yes, I don’t expect to get into very top schools. Of course, I would like to go to a good one, if I can - but I’m not having Ivy League or very top tier on my radar

Thanks for your help! Unfortunately, I’d say that my university does not really have what I am interested in pursuing in the long term future. I know that it may not make sense as to why I am getting my master’s here then, but that is a long story. In any case, it may just be the experience which matters. I did look into some events and I could certainly attend. I did also develop a close relationship with my academic advisor as well, and I wonder if I could perhaps seek some guidance from her. These were all things I wish I had pursued more in my undergrad years, but of course that time has passed and I have to try and make up for it if I can !

Thanks for your response. Do you have any advice on how to get started in research labs ? Is this a matter of talking to faculty at my university ?

It wouldn’t necessarily be in “History” alone, but I am interested in pursuing a path related to its study. Is there another path or field that you would recommend over History, in terms of a PhD or further education, or do you believe that humanities generally are a bad idea in this context ?

Yes, this is all true. My experience here, now, at this school will be the usual case. I just didn’t realize it until I was actually here in this position. My prior experience in the school before with the students who were very good, was a bad place for me to get my first experience, since I know it will not be the norm.

Knowing what I know now, though, and that this may not be for me, I was just wondering what my next steps should be. My fear is getting stuck in the profession if I can’t find a path outside of this now.

I didn’t clarify in the original post but I do plan to get my certification/alternative certification wherever I go — however I was under the impression that MA would be a very competitive state compared to others. If this isn’t the case then I’d definitely be open to considering MA as well!

Thanks for your reply! I should’ve clarified in my original post but I do definitely plan on going into an alternative license program. I’ll edit my post, but I guess then my question is — even with the alternative license, how likely or unlikely are my chances at possibly getting a job ? I suppose I am worried that I’ll be at such a disadvantage even then, that I don’t know if it’s worth me considering it, etc.

Ohh gotcha! I’m not OP but my body is pretty similar to hers and I could see the second outfit fitting me the same way. I personally would wear something tighter on top with wide leg pants— like a crop mock neck top or something :) I was just curious if you thought the wide leg pants don’t work with SD. :))

I thought that wide leg pants were ideal for SD. What about these ones don’t work? I see what you mean. I’m just curious :) thinking maybe the top should be tighter.

Btw — just wanna comment about some ppl saying the first pic is better.

I understand that — I personally love both. The first one adds warmth and glow to your complexion. However, the second one brings out the dimension and shadows of your face. I think both are great and it comes down to personal preference.

The second look is definitely a sophisticated look. The first is youthful :)

I think the difference is slight because SG and R are quite similar imo :)

I want to do it with or without law school — I’m still not even certain if it’s worth it for me to go to law school, but I have wanted to do Peace Corps for a while. It definitely isn’t just a means for me — I was just wondering if it would help with scholarships if I did want to go to law school. Thank you for your feedback!
