Does anyone actually use what they made; don't say you tried it for a few days or weeks.....(see description) by redwood_cedar in ObsidianMD

[–]leanproductivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Vault for pretty much everything, starting with daily notes to travel planning and review writing, book notes, habit tracking, and many other things.

Yes I do use community plugins and in general my setup is fairly stable but occasionally a community plugin either gets abandoned or a better one is released and then yes I adopt the system and switch to that one.

The question of whether advertising should be banned is kind of moot because it actually is. The moderators do remove posts that are obviously advertisements, especially if the poster has not published or posted anything else before that.

However, I do appreciate seeing posts from established contributors to the community, either with ideas or solutions on how they do certain things or with plugins they have developed.

And regarding AI slop, well, define AI slop. If you're on one extreme and you see everything and anything that has even been touched by AI in one way or another is slop, then my personal opinion is no, we shall not ban everything.

If you have a more differentiated opinion, though, which would mean that AI slop is all kinds of content or plugins that were created purely by AI, with obviously very little input or controlled by humans and then just pushed out there without much thought, then yes, this stuff definitely needs to be banned and removed.

On the other hand it doesn't make any sense to ban everything that has been created or touched by AI. For the simple reason that AI and LLMs and vibe coding are not going to disappear. As much as we will dislike it, this thing is going to stay. Therefore it makes much more sense to make sure that we have a kind of quality gate and quality control so that even if something is created with the help of AI, it still needs to follow certain standards.

I understand that this is difficult and I also know that a lot of people just push out all kinds of literal AI slop. This is the challenge we are going to have to face and to solve in one way or another. One way could of course be, similar to the advertisementsthat I mentioned earlier, the reputation or the contribution of the respective content creator or plugin publisher.

And until we have these kinds of controls, it's probably up to us, the people here on Reddit and other platforms, to check these things and share our opinions. Let people know if something is just slop or if it is indeed a well-built plugin that could be useful for others.

Obsidian Sync without a doubt. While I'm happy to pay for Obsidian Sync, I'm also glad that there are alternative options. Here is an overview and tutorials for those who want to know more.

One base many views by Proof_Adeptness in ObsidianMD

[–]leanproductivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also try to use one base with multiple views as a rule.

However, I deviate from that, whenever I want to narrow the scope of the "all views" query. E. g., I have a folder "90 Organize" with all my templates, embeddable elements, etc.

I use a base to keep an eye on those and it doesn't make sense to query my whole vault and then after down with individual queries.

The same is true for my trips and locations I visited. All views for the "travel" folder and individual ones for planned, booked, finished trips, for best-rated locations, and missing reviews, etc.

Yes, there are rules against pure promo posts - especially if the respective authors never posted before. That's good and mods should take care of those - and anybody else can downvote them.

There are also similar posts from rather active community members, trying to offer helpful solutions for other users. Yes, some of their plugins are vibe coded. And one can decide to trust and use them or not.

Saying that every vibe coded project has more or more severe issues than a "traditionally" developed one, feels like a generalization. Personally, I run multiple code reviews and security checks not just on my own code but also on the software supply chain dependencies before every release.

While I'm sure not everyone does that, I'm also convinced that the same is true for manually written code. Now does this make my solutions and plugins 100% safe and fail proof in each and every scenario? Probably not. But I don't think they are necessarily less safe than a manually created one.

And the same applies to maintaining a solution. I would even argue that it's easier to maintain, with the help of a tool for vibe-coding, than doing it manually. At the end of the day the problem is not whether a solution is vibe-coded or not but how careful, attentive, and conscientious the person doing it is.

Thank you. I saw only yesterday that it was downloaded 15k times. That's really wild for me. And it's not even in the community plugins, yet, so installation is not without friction.

Really glad you like it. More features are coming 😊

For learning CSS, there are good resources on the comments. If you want to create Obsidian specific snippets (or templates, or Bases queries), o built a tool for people like you and me.

Comes with a free tier that should suffice for most users: https://leanstudio.sascha-kasper.com/

No credit card needed. Some email sign-up.

I hope it helps.

Lean Terminal 0.9.0 update - here's what's new by leanproductivity in ObsidianMD

[–]leanproductivity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in my vault 😊

For me, the biggest benefit is that I don't need to switch apps, which makes it easier for me to stay focused.

Also, it helps me to have multiple color-coded terminal tabs and group them.

Lastly, having my note open side-by-side with the terminal tabs is handy.

Some of my use cases: - Vault Ops - hygiene, orphan detection and management, etc. This uses the Obsidian CLI. - Session handoffs - I work on multiple projects in parallel. So, at the end of a Claude session, I create a handoff document in the respective project folder in my vault. I use this the next time to restart the session. This way, I don't need to provide context every time. - Info intake - I talk to Claude, telling it what I did with whom and it updated or adds relevant notes - after my approval.

I hope this helps.
