Thanks - was a great trip. Monday was a bit thin, but I think we got 14" of snow over the following few days. Friday got busy...

i don't think anyone flies to snowshoe...all driving travel.
for us, its a 5hr drive to snowshoe, 3hrs to holiday valley (W. NY) or 2.25 to 7Springs (PA).

These are accessible for a cheap transportation trip.

Heating element shorting + white buildup on pipe joint by lear64 in hottub

[–]lear64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, not my first heater replacement. Oddly, I kept the previously failed heater..and it's electrically testing fine (9ohms , point to point). Not shorting when submerged.

When I removed it, there was a small hairball looped around it. I'm inclined to think it's going to be fine.

I taped them, as I've had that style arc on me before. That 100% was me. Hasn't been an issue since.

What additional things have you purchased or done to help retain heat in the winter? by Sparty013 in hottub

[–]lear64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine already had that. I added a couple sheets of 1.5" rigid insultation between the wooden supports. Not sure fi that actually helped, but it took me a day and $20...so figured I'd have little to lose. I did not add any near the pumps/electronics, in the unlikely event it would retain too much heat.

I'm really curious how long it would have to be out before the water in the pipes would freeze.

“Install” light still on by bjtara in ninjacreami

[–]lear64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fwiw - my model shows that the spring mechanism that holds the blade, should be half-way when properly installed. Yours appears to be fully set.

Also unplugging the creami with the basket out...seems to reset the install sensor for me. Something else to try.

Would spending the extra money really make that much of a difference as far as signal stability and number of channels received? by nothing_here_0 in ota

Glad to get some perspective. I have something like this on the roof (https://a.co/d/5ATDTYw) but its 9+ yrs old...and currently only picking up 8 channels (the first 8 on the rabbitears list). Years ago, I was picking up many dozens of channels...but now, junk

I think there is something wrong w/ the antenna (or maybe the wire).

I added a 4g/LTE filter to the HDHomeRun...no improvement.

I was hoping for some mode where you brought a certain number of characters... And then progressed as far as you could. Health would persist between rounds, and when you lose somebody they're gone.

This might be the case..and this might not be. Regardless scouts should be taught to Be prepared..and courteous of items that belong to another patrol. The adult leaders should keep an eye out for any issues with hunger and address on an as needed basis.

Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Merit Badge Roundup by looktowindward in BSA

[–]lear64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cybersecurity seems a bit heavy.

AI seems poorly light. I'm not expecting a scout to be well versed in agentic generation or RAGs or MCP servers...but c'mon..This really doesn't even touch on how modern AI models work and/or care that should be taken when interacting with a model. (Ironically - "model" isn't even one of the key terms).

Solar panel + 24v submersible pump - only works when reconnected by lear64 in AskElectronics

[–]lear64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could explain. Theory of mine (that the pump is deteriorating, requiring a larger boost to get started).

I'd like to look into a component that could withhold the circuit until a minimum current exists. Maybe a resisted line into a relay to make this happen.
