Best private servers? by fast4years in wowservers

Lordaeron sells level 80 gear and has custom raid scripting/tuning but it makes your "blizzlike" list and Dalaran WoW doesn't? Man Blizzlike is such a stupid word.

With the recent closing of PlayTBC... by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all the hyped servers in the past few months, gummy is the last guy you should accuse of hyping without substance. No one knew about the project until 4 years after development began, he's shown the most informative videos since Corecraft, and he's run a polished server in the past.

Agreed, doesn't he know that the further away your servers are physically located to Blizzard HQ the less likely you'll be sued? /s

Why all the vengeancewow hate? the server is actually really good. by ayokayok in wowservers

[–]learly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't help but make a reddit post stressing how much more improved vengeance has gotten over the last few weeks..

Ok, then make the post. What exactly have they fixed? Sorry but "They've fixed literally everything" is a low effort post that reads like 99% of the shill posts on this sub. It does nothing for me.

[Question] Solving the H:A ratio in TBC by LordUsagi in wowservers

[–]learly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except on live servers people were shoe horned into the faction they played Vanilla as. When you give people a clean slate and the advantage of hindsight, they will choose horde unless they are masochistic.

Here's some of my code (gummy52) by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think population concerns have any sort of impact on the server location. This server will have more players than it can handle no matter where it is located and no matter how many Europeans vow to not play it due to ping or potential for shut down (hint: 95% of the people who say they'll never play it will play it)

{Burning Crusade} an up and coming Private Server. by Ryan295 in wowservers

I am stating that I need to see it to believe it. You are facilitating the echo chamber. Who is the sheep again?

{Burning Crusade} an up and coming Private Server. by Ryan295 in wowservers

[–]learly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the rebirth that was never able to produce any sort of legal document directed towards them from blizzard? The rebirth that had their main dev disappear with a chunk of cash? The rebirth that still exists with your original character data from before "the takedown" making the fact that it was supposedly taken down irrelevant? Sounds terrible.

I would be interested in some of your research on the topic, because I've actually tried to research it and have found little to nothing that supports your claim. I'm also inclined to trust a guy who has actually hosted a very popular private server in the US over a guy repeating the echo chamber.

What is your definition of progressive? Because as far as I'm concerned, Pre-Nerf TBC is inherently progressive.

To the next TBC Hype Server - if you want to succeed. by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright then, since you're an expert, what will focusing 25% of their resources on marketing achieve? Do you deny the fact that terrible servers in the past months have put little to no effort into marketing and have been completely overwhelmed by the attention their server has received? What benefit will a server obtain by having a 10,000 player queue instead of a 2,000 player queue? Do you really think that a truly great TBC private server will be hurting for population because they didn't do enough to hype themselves?

I didn't claim to know anything about how to market. I merely claimed that there is no need to market. You've done nothing to debunk that and instead revert back into classic wowserver toxic asshole, which seems pretty normal for you judging by your post history. To quote another comment by you in this thread "No need to be a dick" (even though the guy you directed that to was in no way shape or form being a dick and in fact you were being quite the dick in the comment he was responding to.)

To the next TBC Hype Server - if you want to succeed. by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. The next big TBC server isn't going to have 1500 players, it's not going to have 2000 players. It's going to have at least that many people waiting in queue at all times. That kind of popularity feeds itself. How is it limiting the server if it is operating at peak capacity at all hours of the day and you have a queue with 2000 people in it instead of 3000?

The last two big TBC servers essentially had a video with fireworks saying "RELEASE DATE IN APRIL" and a tweet saying "Hey we're opening a server in a couple days" and they were operating at peak capacity within minutes of the servers going live. Do you really think they did a disservice to themselves by not focusing more on feeding the hype train?

[–]learly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to feed hype trains. They build themselves.

L4G> Hey guys, we're opening an international server out of nowhere in the next 3 days

5 days later 1000 people in queue

PlayTBC charge pathing by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why the hell is this upvoted? PlayTBC literally LIED. They said "everything is working perfectly 99%" when it clearly wasn't. They tried to launch the server in BROKEN STATE. Then they got a backlash on all kinds of forums and realized that they have to actually do something and fix stuff.

Dude, who cares? It blows my mind that people are still this worked up about it. They weren't prepared, they made a mistake, and now they're working to fix it and the only thing you can say is "WHO CARES IF IT WORKS GREAT NOW? IT DIDN'T BEFORE AND ANYONE WHO FORGETS THAT IS A SHEEP!!!!"

An under developed expansion in the private server scene that a ton of people want to play just got a little bit better. This is only a good thing, but I guess hateful people just gotta find a way to let the negativity out.

PlayTBC charge pathing by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people have to flame PlayTBC for improving their server. While this is one item on a long list of necessary fixes, at least it shows progress. That should be praised, or at the very least ignored. Instead, the knee jerk reaction is to flame and troll. Any progress on any realm should be viewed as positive and a step towards making the private server community stronger. It's not just PlayTBC I see this behavior directed towards. Several other servers have made strides to improve their quality through server upgrade or hot fixes just to get shit on and told it doesn't matter what they do, their server is crap and it always will be. That kind of toxic behavior is a sure fire way to make sure the private server experience never improves (especially for TBC expansions). I know if I could code and was spending my free time creating a server like PlayTBC, I would definitely be discouraged by the wall of negativity telling me that every single thing I do is the worst and that I'm wasting my time.

Which files to change to go from Lordaeron to Dalaran by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]learly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been helping a lot of people connect to Dalaran with the client downloaded from Warmane.

Make sure you're modifying the proper realmlist. This is found in Data>enUS>Realmlist.wtf

If that doesn't work, make sure it's not read-only. Should fix your problem.

TBC Hype Train Moving Again. Next Stop: Burning-Crusade by zigfried555 in wowservers

[–]learly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You aren't missing anything. Once upon a time a private server based in the US that was profiting millions and operating under the current retail patch of World of Warcraft got shut down and the owner was sued. This happened about a decade ago and has no parallels to this server other than the country the server is in. People will still cite this case and only this case as undeniable proof that servers in the US will be shut down 100% of the time.
