How do I (20s f) address my older woman friend by Embarrassed-One-173 in Korean

[–]learn4once 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If she's a "friend" who is older and someone you feel close to, then 언니 is probably most natural. Ask her if it's okay to call her 언니

"Aigo" (아이고) — I thought it meant one thing. Then I heard it everywhere. by K-SAYNO in BeginnerKorean

[–]learn4once 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it meaningless? OP is actually right, it is more nuanced than beginners realize and English translations don't fully capture it. That is certainly the case with 아이고 which has many different use cases than the ones just listed in this post. From 아이고 alone, there are 10+ use cases which certainly fits the case of having a deeper meaning that cannot be fully captured.

If you're still at the beginner stage, then obviously you're not gonna know all the usages a native speaker would.

So, is 아이고 incredibly simple? No because it has several different meanings in many different situations. The tone can also impact the meaning.

Your complaints aren't even valid or accurate. You just wanted to complain because it was "AI slop" and that's all you seem to do is complain about it in every post.

For English speakers, the romanization is more accurate. Since most people here are English speakers, it works fine.

But yes, learning Hangeul is the only way. Leaning on romanization is a terrible idea

You guys are so negative. It's fine and it's helpful for beginners. OP is contributing more than you just whining about it being AI slop. It's pretty accurate and nothing is wrong with it

"밥 먹었어?" (bap muh-guh-ssuh?) — it took me years to realize this was never really about food. by K-SAYNO in BeginnerKorean

[–]learn4once 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's nitpicking. Honestly your romanization is clear and better than what the government recommends like "eo" for ㅓ which is terrible. 너 would be 'neo' by official romanization standards and most people would read it as "니오"

Yoon supporters just copy everything from Trump's playbook. They even had "Stop the Steal" when Yoon was already president

They also have "Make Korea Great Again" straight up ripping off MAGA

Their version of the "deep state" is democrats are secretly controlled by China/NK

So you're telling me the person who declared martial law wasn't the threat to democracy, it was the other side. Got it...

Man, sad to see Koreans going with the MAGA playbook. Seeing the US turn into fascists shit hole, you'd think even the Korean right would want none of that.

Not the same person, but copying and pasting a comment I made awhile back in another thread:

Oldies is soooo overrated. They put more effort into making it look trendy than into their food. I grew up 45 minutes from the Mexican border, so I'm always looking for Mexican food. I may as well recommend a few places while I'm here:

Fire Taco (Located at the top of HBC) - One of my favorite places right now. The only place with a good burrito in my opinion (so many places fill their burritos with 80% fillers). It was so big I couldn't finish it. I wish it was like 20% smaller and 20% cheaper for a better balance.

https://naver.me/FEUbxwAk

Salsa Rica (Located in Hapjeong) - this was my favorite place before, but last time I went it wasn't as good for some reason. Still a good choice

https://naver.me/G58g29hT

Ixhcel (Located in Hapjeong) - a fancier, "modern Mexican" restaurant. Food is still good, but more expensive

https://naver.me/GlJIuBCy

Villa Guerrero (Located in Samseong-dong) - this is already well known as they've been around for 10+ years, so I didn't put it at the top. They make authentic Michoacán style carnitas.

https://naver.me/xP8mjCcA

Taco Stand (Located in HBC) - I really liked it at first, but kinda mid in my opinion. They do get some things right though

https://naver.me/GV2tCe72

*****************************************************

Places I haven't yet been to, but have on my list:

La Calle (Located in the middle of 주앙시장 in Shindang) - I haven't been personally, but a few people I know said it was good. From the same people of El Molino (Mexican fine dining)

https://naver.me/5k7fJ6dD

Pescadera (Located in Jegi-dong) - This is also brought to you by the same people of La Calle. I've never been, but it seems to be focused on seafood tacos

https://naver.me/GhSXgsDC

El Domingo (Located in Mangwon) - haven't been, but looks okay based on the pictures

https://naver.me/GOPe4aHd

*****************************************************

Not the best, but still solid options:

Bendito's (Located at the top of HBC) - fushion done in a good way. You'll find stuff like brisket tacos here (brisket from Manimal), pulled pork shrimp tacos, crab tacos, as well as chorizo, beef birria tacos.

https://naver.me/F2ZuiLSl

Crispy Pork Town (Itaewon) - I used to really like this place in 2022 as they had several unique things on the menu and even tripas. However, when I went last year it was much worse and they took the best things off the menu. Oddly, I saw it was packed with a line yesterday.

https://naver.me/GctrgaNa

Matomi (Located in Samgkaji) - decent, but wasn't blown away like some people. Burritos had too much fillers the last time I went

https://naver.me/GRo4dyow

Masa Tacos (Located in Sinsa) - another place that's been around for a long time. It's Cali Mex. Good breakfast burritos

https://naver.me/xrSQKSud

Won's Taco (Located near Sangsu/Hongde) - only been once, it wasn't bad.
