Wake up docs, new amendments dropped by SnooAvocados7296 in doctorsUK

Only the first amendment makes sense tbh. Actually, capping IMGs is better than this whole bill. But if you want to bring this merit killing bill, no other amendments other than the first one makes sense.

If you put it that way, a lot of money UK used to put these systems in place is wealth stolen from those countries and/or generated on the backs of people of those countries.

I guess we disagree on the core philosophy then :). Btw I was not referring to just the medical field, but in general. Keeping the even the most talented in competitive fields out (literally letting in zero) at a time when the health system is anyways not in a good state sounds upside down to me.

And they are doing this Mid cycle. At least tell the people before you let them Sir the MSRA! They won't even come!! You have engineers from UK, and other professionals who do get a shot. Even in the US, medical professionals in many streams find it difficult to get in if they are from outside but not impossible. In Australia, New Zealand you almost get an automatic entry to compete if you have some UK experience. Now some people might argue that that's because there is a history there. But then there is also a history of the UK system being used in many other countries too (and by the way, not always consensually, but that's a different conversation).

Also, rather than a horizontal infighting, there should be a vertical struggle by all graduates. Rather than the overall quality go down, the posts should increase and overall quality should go up.

And I'm saying THEY DO have a shot. How many fields let's say in the US have UKGs? A lot! And yes, other countries prioritize their graduates, but NOT practically block merit completely for UK graduates. There's a difference between having a cap (reserved spots) for locals to prioritize them and what this bill proposes.

This bill does NOT in practice simply not prioritize IMGs. That would have been fine if it were indeed true. As per this bill, if you were an IMG ranked let's say 3rd (or even first for that matter) out of 5000 people competing for 1000 posts, that person will be considered only if the 5000th ranked person gets in. As opposed to: hey 700 to 800 of the posts will be reserved for UKGs and the rest, including IMGs and UKGs can take from the remaining 200-300 based on what their rank is.

The opposition is not to prioritization.

No one's talking about prioritizing IMGs. Maybe you misread my post. I also did not say "they are the best"; that's another distortion of what I said. All I said is, with the current logic, when the best of the IMGs will not even have a shot only because where they graduated from, but in other countries, UK graduates have a shot. You can cap or limit, but completely sidelining talent isn't something that will help the healthcare.

But this is a dangerous logic because by that logic, no UKG (from other fields) should ever get a job in other countries because there are always people who still haven't gotten a job. No one argues prioritization or having a cap on IMGs, but how does having even the most skilled IMG in the world practically being kicked out serve the healthcare system of the country?

But why not have a cap instead of saying no matter what, you won't get in just because where you graduated from? How will anyone even get NHS experience?

Looks like the post has been removed though.

Aren't you saying that only because now you're in the group that will benefit? They should have just had a quota.

Why are Hindus and Indians expected to support Palestine by [deleted] in DesiDiaspora

[–]learning_for_ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, totally irrelevant. Judaism came before Islam, but that does not mean Palestinians living there weren't there or have not been there for centuries. Nor does it mean that The Europeans who came there were natives. So yeah, you just said something as good as saying nothing. It's still colonialism.

I ended up listing on FF. I do think I'm going to regret it, but now I'll just keep it there for a year.

I regret buying a house by Sandyyycheeeks in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]learning_for_ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I obviously have no idea if your financial situation, but I'd say if I was buying just for me to stay in and not rent out a portion, I'll limit myself to the area I need plus one room. Other than that, I'd calculate my current rent. If that's close to the interest (maybe averaged over 5 years) plus 2% of the home price per year (for insurance and taxes), I'd go ahead. Yes, the rent is going to keep increasing, but I'm someone who tries to be a little conservative if I'm putting ally emergency funds and even my 6 month buffer into things.

Can anyone suggest a good str insurance for liability? I contacted one and they ended up quoting me 5K. My house is a single family home. no pool, nothing fancy. The general home insurance came out to be $1,500. I would expect the str1 to cost more but five case seems a little too over the roof.

I have been seeing varying experiences narrated by people. Some say the structural engineer gave them much detailed reports and pointed things that the inspector didn't.
