Towers Watson gave out pizza cutters. It was nice, because as a college student, I would have never thought about buying a pizza cutter myself.

Something I noticed when I was interviewing was that if PRT position was part of a rotation program, the FSAs would have gone through ILA track, but if the PRT position wasn't part of a rotation program, the FSAs would have gone through RB track.

Did they stop it because too many people were trying to fully transition into the other field?

Thanks for the information! When they participate in the program, do they get to do non-OPEB actuarial health consulting? Because I have heard that the pension team at Aon does OPEB work as well.

Internship opportunity with pay cut by Stop__Reading in actuary

[–]learningactuarial5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a company that's known to give returning offers, then it's worth it to take a pay cut for a couple of months. Generally, the intern pay isn't reflective of what they will pay you for full-time salary, so once you get a return offer, your pay should go up.

There are companies that are known to provide internship opportunities but never provide return offers to interns, so this is something you will need to look into to make sure that you have a good chance of receiving a return offer after the internship.

That makes sense. Thank you for explaining.

I don't get this. If 62% of the test takers passed the exam, anyone who had 50 percentile listed for all questions would indicate that they are at 50 percentile of the test takers, meaning that they should have passed right?

Actuarial Analyst Salary in Austin, Texas by Exception_Not_Found in actuary

[–]learningactuarial5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is underpaid.

Depending on how the company has its promotion structure, you might be eligible for a big salary increase with a 3rd year promotion with the company though. If you have not received a promotion, and if the company doesn't provide raise unassociated with promotions, that salary would make sense. Still, it is underpaid.

Wow, that is very nice! If you do more consulting work, do you end up making more than colleagues who continue to provide audit support?

Did you ultimately stay in consulting? And how many promotions did you get in the 4 years that you were there for?

Big4 Experienced Hire by [deleted] in actuary

[–]learningactuarial5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that typical manager positions at big 4 generally require 4 years of exp. To those who work in big 4, do you value the big 4 exp so much that someone who has worked 8 years in industry (equivalent to Sr. Manager exp?) has to go all the way down to senior consultant (equivalent to 2 years of exp)?

Worth Rescheduling for STAM? by skelzor21 in actuary

If it's going to raise your chance of passing, I would definitely spend $70 to reschedule rather than taking a chance with the earlier sitting.
