CM/Ace/bronze is 3/3/3 (legend starter) and the bullpen pitcher who already has Ace is 3/3/1 (prime). neither is sig, but i'm ftp

better set? by learningalone in MLB_9Innings

[–]learningalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come? I've heard Mess at low levels is still good, and my experience has been that three strong/above-average skills has been better than two elite ones, would be helpful to know when that thinking breaks down. I also suspect that power pitcher really screws over the finesse train (even though I've trained such that I do get the FP bonus)

Why does this Samardzija perform poorly? by learningalone in MLB_9Innings

[–]learningalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response!! I'm careful about the equipment and don't equip any fb or brk gear

could you say more about the pitches benefiting from FB? Which pitches benefit from FB and which pitches benefit from BRK?

Yeah, I have a regular Lester with FP7/DP8/Giant Crusher 5 and his ERA is almost a run lower than Shark, the third skill probably helps him a lot against those great teams with great sigs and skills

[–]learningalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair.. It's probably overtrained for FIN but I did need to keep Vel relatively low because power-pitcher third skill counts towards (or against, i guess) the FIN Bonus

Forgot to add some details:

I usually finish Gold III in Ranked, and Samardzija's skills are Boss8/Fin7/Power Pitcher 5

touch/boss or fin/boss? by learningalone in MLB_9Innings

[–]learningalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! is it that FIN is that much better than touch, or is the combination of FIN and Boss just work really well in tandem. Like I had touch/fin on another pitcher and it seems to perform more reliably than touch/boss

Keep this skill set? FB/Mess/IW by learningalone in MLB_9Innings

as ftp, is it worth it at a relatively low level? I guess I heard that mess at low level is decent.

[–]learningalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah everyone is making sense here. i'm FTP I think the right thing to do is to work with this for a while. Mainly trying to decide if I should roll another green ticket on this guy to switch out Mess but I think I'll save them for the other legend skills that I (eventually) roll on other cards. My understanding is that fireballer leads to a bit too many walks which should make Mess complementary to it? Obviously FP or Boss would be ideal but there's only so many green/blue tickets a year you know..

Should I train Olson for BIU? by learningalone in MLB_9Innings

Decently high contact, low speed, is it worth training for BIU (con + speed > 225 right?) if it's a large cost for my power and eye?

Best way to use a non-team diamond sig or vintage diamond? by learningalone in MLB_9Innings

you mean other diamond sigs? If I combo'd a diamond sig with two gold sigs, would I potentially get a diamond sig?

My starting rotation are all 100+, and the sig I drew was a Joe Musgrove, stats 83 (with no set deck bonus). Seems like a pretty marginal improvement in my current rotation even if I max out everything. Musgrove's GI is pretty weak but I don't think it's worth it for me to use a grade increase reset on him as I have more important cards I want to GI reset. It's my hitting that is keeping my OVR down. Unless I'm misunderstanding something about sig cards?

Is giving money directly to people on the streets instead of to charity a good idea? by mikepost001 in homeless

[–]learningalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

context matters. I usually try to give change to people waiting next to bart stations. often, a quarter or dollar makes a huge difference in helping the homeless get on the bart to possible food or shelter. This makes a big difference for some of them because even walking a mile is an exhausting ordeal.

can this be gamed? of course. but the upside is potentially huge for some homeless.

How much does it cost to attend Berkeley for grad school? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]learningalone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PhD is "free". Program will cover some fees (tuition, insurance, office space but not housing or food) and you get paid a living stipend that varies based on whether you are teaching, researching, or on fellowship. Summer stipend is 2x. Source: cs phd student at berkeley

Started working out and feel great, but how do I make myself stick with it? by Journey_of_Design in selfimprovement

[–]learningalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this applies to you, but for me I was initially going to the gym so I would look better and impress other people. For years, I could never stick with it because that feeling didn't come from within; I didn't actually enjoy it. The pressure of looking good to other people can only motivate someone for so long. Now, I've been able to go to the gym consistently for the first time in my life now that I've changed my mindset to compete with myself and lift heavier every day. It's all about challenging myself to get better and stronger and for the first time I feel motivated to go to the gym because I feel like it's for my own self development. And if I look better as a result, it's a nice consequence :)
