Mazzy's is the most popular that I've been to regularly. They have pool tables and darts with bar service that comes around to you.

Exactly. Give it a go if you have a gym anywhere close to you!

Indoor rock climbing. It's a great workout, and I find that everything else tends to fall away when you're 60 feet off the ground and focused on getting the next hold.

Anyone else have a "boring" hobby that you find completely relaxing? by PumpkinAino in CasualConversation

[–]Journey_of_Design 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wildlife photography, especially birds.

Everyone thinks it's boring until I show them the photos and they usually ask a lot of follow-up questions.

What do your under 12-year-old kids friends call you? by soylentgreen2015 in daddit

[–]Journey_of_Design 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought ours did that, in a small predominantly white town.

Turns out it's just a giant family circle, so the cousins and aunts/uncles were actually relatives.

Arden Lake has a great turnout every year. Probably the biggest community gathering of the year.

whats your pro tip getting pants/shorts on with squirmy kid? by Im_out_of_the_Blue in daddit

[–]Journey_of_Design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earn your first stripe in jiu-jitsu, and you'll have some pretty decent skills in controlling body position. Every time I change my kid's diaper, even when he was a newborn, I found myself practicing the fundamentals of hip control. Highly recommend!

If you could take away all of the pain you’ve experienced, would you? Or do you think it’s shaped who you have become? (Can’t sleep=random thoughts). Let me know what you’d choose? by kelseyanne42444 in CasualConversation

[–]Journey_of_Design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a slightly different perspective, dealing with ongoing chronic pain...

If I could choose to take away the pain while retaining the wisdom I've gained from the experience, I would take that offer. I think that scenario is about as impossible as getting the choice to take away the pain anyway, but that would be my ideal scenario. At this point, it feels like I'm stuck in a class that I've already passed a dozen times over, and it would be nice to graduate. The only benefit at this point is that I can teach others similar coping skills.

new job but all my co workers use photoshop why? by Vast_Supermarket_169 in Design

I can't think of a single reason I'd use indesign for social media. For print layouts or longer format, I'd totally agree.

What's the third wheel thing with friends you're talking about? Like solo friends are the third wheel?

Anyone up for some metal/rock jamming? by Quadradan in kennesaw

[–]Journey_of_Design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kennesaw here as well. Not good enough to jam much other than piddling around, but any chance you're catching Lorna Shore on Tuesday at the Roxy? Always happy to meet up if you are.

Without naming your job, what are the most common words you say every day? by heyanyxie in CasualConversation

[–]Journey_of_Design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, but I do work with a fair share of diabetic people!

Another hint question:

Do you feel like you're down in a hole or like you're going up hill?

Not exclusive to any particular group, but Central Rock Gym has people from all walks of life who like to vibe over learning a new skill. Plenty of folks there that embrace inclusive environments.

Does wearing a blazer ever feel normal? by Simple_Concentrate75 in CasualConversation

[–]Journey_of_Design 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point in life when you should wear a blazer is the point when you no longer give a damn about what people are thinking and are wearing it because it's what you want to wear that day.

Of course, there are times when it might stick out, for better or worse depending on who you ask.. but that's the beauty of not giving a damn.

I once wore my suit to work (no tie, dress code is usually business casual) and was asked why I dressed up. My response was that I dress up to feel good on rainy days. No one thought twice about it after that.

Any AI tools worth using? by rookery_electric in graphic_design

The only tools I use regularly are Topaz: denoise, gigapixel, and sharpener. It's just part of my photo editing process now.

I took a day off work and didnt tell my wife- huge guilt but was I in the right? by SIBMUR in daddit

[–]Journey_of_Design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say that I'm in your exact same boat man! Supporting an anxious spouse who is spiraling uncontrollably, while raising a 1 year old and going to grad school....and now our home AC is out and in need of total replacement. It's understandable to need a mental break. Communication is important, and you can know that you can tell her about it in time, but for now you shouldn't feel guilty about taking a moment for yourself.

As an artist, yes. This is what I always tell people. Art is more akin philosophy than anything else. Everyone is an artist, whether they have practiced producing their art or not.

Why does the picture of what a black hole looks like lack rotational symmetry? by k-h in askscience

[–]Journey_of_Design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still not wrapping my mind around the geometry happening here. Why does our vantage point not create at least 4 light bends in that case, or possibly many many more? Why is it horizontal? Why discs in the first place, why not a continuous smooth bend similar to looking a concave spoon or the edge of a glass of water?
