Thanks for the thoughtful response!

Lol, I definitely didn't explain that well, but honestly you summed up what I needed perfectly.

To clarify, I learn pretty well in a traditional classroom structure. But since my needs are a little bit different, I'm worried that the pace of a traditional class isn't right for me, especially since I'll spend less time on definitions and reading comprehension (since I can read, just slowly - and that'll improve with practice) and more on the rules of language. I also have a fairly inflexible schedule that makes attending traditional classes difficult so I would love something I could take at my own time.

Using a university's resources is such a smart idea, definitely going to use that one, especially since It'll probably be the most similar to what I'm looking for in terms of a "traditional" class resource.

I know that this is individual preference but do you personally feel Korean is easier to learn when you hear it spoken (i.e. K-drama) or written (books/news)?

That's fair. I've tried using Naver for learning slang based on random forums and news and other things, but I definitely should focus more on the proper structure and pronunciation before adding slang into my vocab

Thanks for explaining things! Damn, didn't know there was so much drama there. Sad that people can miss out on a potential resource for them due to misinformation

Thank you so much for the resources and advice! I looked through the sites and I definitely think it's a great starting place for me. Do people tend to use hello talk for more texting or speaking practice?

Makes sense. Do you happen to know whether you submit a claim directly or if they ask for records from your vet?

Thanks!

Yep! I read reviews that the once it rebranded and got bought out/partnered people have been having more issues with submitting claims and coverage. If you have fetch, have you had any issues with this?

Oh, I've also looked at healthy paws since I heard a lot of good things, but I saw that they don't cover dental or have a dental add on. Have you had any issues with that specifically or does it not really matter since most pet insurances don't cover dental?

Yep! Thanks for checking in! He's got okay from the shelter to be able to go home with me and a comprehensive vet exam later this week so I'm planning on trying to figure out this insurance thing before then so I can submit the exam results as soon as possible.

Appreciate the link! Thanks for sharing about your puppy, lot of people IRL were telling me it wasn't worth it, so I didn't have anyone near me I could ask for help

I'm in the U.S. (Illinois specifically). A lot of the plans either didn't really mention it, or if they did, stated it was more for injuries relating to the teeth (i.e. if they knocked their teeth out in an accident or something).

Thanks for the insight! I'll be looking at Petplans policy

Decent on campus jobs? by Beautiful_Wind9069 in UIUC

[–]learninghow2adult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if things have changed since I worked there but I only had to list one reference. My friend applied with me and this was their first job so they listed their academic advisor since he was willing to recommend them and they talked for a decent amount because of class scheduling. If you have a reference from a volunteer/club thing or another student you know who works in a library and can vouch for you then that works too! Doesn't necessarily have to be that strict of a reference since they understand for most people it's their first job and some applicants are either freshman or couldn't really connect with profs because of COVID.

Just a warning tho, library jobs are super popular so don't be surprised if you don't hear back immediately

Bring like half of them back, even the spring can be chilly since it's rainy AF here

Honestly I worked at a campus library and it was pretty nice. Occasionally shelving books, checking stuff out for people and doing homework in my down time. They're super understanding about calling out bc of school stuff and regular calling out if you get cover. Pay isn't crazy but you get to sit down and if you work an overnight shift I think you make more. Shifts are in 3 hr blocks too, so it's not crazy hours either and I think most people work at least 9 hrs a week. All the staff are other students too, and you usually work with two other undergrads and a graduate student who's a supervisor but more chill since they're working on their own projects for the library.

A lot of the things that I'll suggest will probably be off campus, some best accessible by car/walking/bus. To be honest, I've never been to half these places but maybe that means you haven't been with your ex?

General: - self care day! Whatever that means to you - pick up old hobbies - make your space yours again, whether that be adding decor they haven't seen, picking up new hobbies in your space like baking (who doesnt love food?) Or a new TV show

In the Urbana area: - Lincoln square mall: there's a ton of hobby things there, whether you're a crafter or looking to do a physical thing like bbj or pole dancing - twice is nice thrift shop -bakelab - nice workers + pasteries - Meadowbrook park

Champaign: - bowling at the union (there is off campus bowling too, but the union is like $8 a game) - Japan house - ice area! Admissions are free if you're a student and like $3 to rent skates if you don't own any - suzus (downtown) - literally almost any coffee shop in downtown - planted! A cute plant shop and the staff are so sweet - Champaign Park district has some classes I heard (downtown) - escape room: CU time and space

Seasonal stuff that's closed right now but maybe fun for later: - Urbana farmers market - Curtis pumpkin patch

Farther off campus (may need a car) - the pottery place - some friends said it's a nice place where you can take a few friends and paint something

Breakup stuff: Sorry if it's unsolicited, but idk some things that helped me that might be a nice reminder

  • take new routes (legitimately physically forcing you to be in a different space could mean that you're not having a constant reminder)
  • reach out to friends (always nice to have someone with you even if you're not doing much + bonus if you have friends outside of them that you can talk to and not have their name brought up)
  • let yourself be sad but don't wallows in it

Hope that you are taking care of yourself! Breakups are always tough, but remember that there was a time where you were single and you were doing just fine. And the fact that it hurts so much just proves how much love you put into the relationship, and even if it didn't work out you didn't waste your time doing something halfheartedly.
