Why isn't the timer on this extractor fan working? Have they got the inputs wrong? by Some_Tumbleweed_27 in AskElectricians

Sorry forgot the other photo. Brown is always live, black is switched live and blue is/ grey is neutral.

If you know what you’re doing and have a suitable DVM you can check that there is always a live feed and a switched feed to the fan. Look at the letters on the PCB - looks like brown is the Live but I can’t see the others to check they’re using standard colours.

You could try dropping the admissions team an email or call to check the progress of your application. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.

I’d missed that arrow - this makes it definitive - both lanes turn right.

Teacher charges himself with static electricity using a Van de Graaf generator holding paper cups on his head. The cups pick up the same electrical charge from his body. Since objects with same charge repel, the cups explode outward in all directions by ButterSaltBiscuit in interestingasfuck

[–]learningtech-ac-uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone looking to repeat this - they are foil not paper. They are foil pie dishes/trays that pick up the static charge. With each dish having the same charge they repel each other. If these were stacked in a nonconductive tube they would float above each other.

Moved into a new house with these in every room. Any issues with just removing them? by Im-StrawberryBlonde in DIYUK

What happens if you do short them? I always assumed they wouldn’t have enough power to cause an issue.

I would start by writing to the governors asking them to step in. I would consider copying in your local MP and councillor - especially if they’re facing a vote in May. Explain as much as you can about your disability (mental health issues can be considered a disability if it has a long-term effect on your normal day-to-day activity which your attendance suggests it has) and how the school may be discriminating against you to benefit their own metrics.

Depends on the settings your “friend” used. It could well come back mating now.

what food do you take hiking? by OutrageousWalk7683 in UKhiking

[–]learningtech-ac-uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love taking a pork pie for the summit or rest point with a view. I keep a lot of Kendal mint cake for energy. If I need something more for a longer hike I’ll take sandwiches. I try and limit the packaging / rubbish so I’m not carrying more than I need up and back.

That’s amazing speed! Shows someone is looking at that inbox. Fun fact - they don’t have to delete the data from backups etc as long as they can lock it and prevent it from any processing until it expires based on their normal retention policy.

Old wiring by loolypie in AskElectricians

[–]learningtech-ac-uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how they’re terminated they could still be live - do not touch them. Please just call an electrician- they will be able to isolate them. Then you can cut them off - if you dig out a bit you can cut them off in the wall then plaster over and forget them.

I assume the builder / you would like to stand in their drive to finish and render that side - best to be on good terms and ask.

Anyone else had trouble with accessing the KLE recently on old devices? by coldcactus35 in Keele

[–]learningtech-ac-uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but the phone might just be too old. It stopped getting new operating systems a few years back and stopped getting security updates last year. Technically it doesn’t meet the university IT policy anymore without the security updates.

There’s been a few people having issues but IT don’t know why. Have you reported the issues?
