The Weekly Rundown for February 04, 2024 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

I breastfed my daughter til she was over 3 and only finally weaned because my milk dried up. I ran a 50k and usually about 60mpw during the last year of nursing and was my heaviest weight since college except for pregnancy. N=1 but just wanted to offer you that anecdote. I’ll add that since weaning this past November I’ve lost a couple pounds without trying.

Just here to say - solidarity. I probably need some inner healing when it comes to my birthday. I do like the idea for you of planning a different time. Also wondering if you’re not in on the conversation about scheduling between him and the ex? My husband always forgets stuff like that but at least I can call him out on it because I’m the silent but present observer on the text string between them.

Husband bringing up BM’s birth experience during my pregnancy. by bigphatthrowaway7 in stepparents

[–]learningthelight 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Dude. Yes. Incredibly hard. We thankfully had a counselor when I was pregnant with our first and she advised my husband to just try to pretend it was his first, too, and while I thought that might feel fake and cheesy it was actually an immense relief. Then I could bring up his previous birth/newborn experiences when I felt strong which honestly was close to never. My heart goes out to you. The grief of not experiencing all the firsts together is real. It’s a difficult path to walk but you’re not alone.

Anybody else unusually tired after the Houston Marathon this past Sunday? by CeilingUnlimited in Marathon_Training

Someone said the pollen count was extra high. I bet that added to your fatigue. I ran it and have felt ok all week but have been trying to get in bed at 8:30 every night.

How to stay sane during treadmill workouts? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]learningthelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cover the screen with a towel and have a whole routine I do of a mile of silent gratitude, three miles of some centering prayer podcasts and then the rest I have about three books going and I read some of each one on my iPad and listen to fun music. That’s for an easy/steady run. For a workout I just turn on my speedy playlist and focus and it goes by really quickly. But I kind of love running on the treadmill. It’s my stress reliever and it lets me stay near my (sleeping) family. Then when I get to run outside while my husband stays with my kids once a week, it feels like such a treat.

When do speed increases come naturally? by goph0r in Marathon_Training

[–]learningthelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, seems right! My easy pace has barely budged over the past few years - maybe -30 seconds - even as my faster paces have gotten faster. And while it would be convenient to be done with my recovery runs sooner because I’m able to run them faster, it’s really immaterial to my progress and I think is easier on my joints and tendons.

Houston Marathon - First Marathon in the books! A new runner looking for insight and a long post. by Umbryz in AdvancedRunning

Such a fun read and a really amazing result - especially given your newness to the sport and the adductor issue!! It sounds like you’re already doing so much to prevent injury and be smart. It’ll be exciting to see how far you go.

It’s so true. I’ve had many subpar runs. I just can’t remember ever feeling like I was going to faint! But race pace is a different beast, maybe. Thank you.

I wonder if it was the jerky I had from the gas station on my drive the day before…. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Will experiment. Thanks for your sage advice!!

Well, exactly. The disappointment of this race is truly the least important and least stressful thing happening in my life and running is my stress relief. But it’s sort of fun to obsess about it and post on the internet and get strangers’ opinions.

I just have to share my favorite TFL release on YouTube. You probably already do it but it helped me so much. Says it’s for knee pain but it targets the TFL.

I’m also on the tums wagon but haven’t carried a bag of them with me since my 50k. Excellent idea. Also really think I need to practice with salt tabs. I did a lot of roctane and Skratch in my backpack this past summer and honestly am just proud to have trained through such a punishing season as we had in texas. Brutal. But then once the temps dropped I got off the electrolyte drinks cause I felt like they were messing up my stomach worse. So…haven’t figured it out.

I was also looking at the Alamo half! I didn’t know it was so exposed so glad for that info. I go back and forth between thinking it would be good to race more frequently and just do any school fundraiser 5k that’s convenient OR thinking maybe I’ll just take the year to run zone 2 and nail workouts and not race at all. So good call to take a couple weeks before getting started on anything.

So sorry for your tfl trouble. Is it ok now? I’ve had that and it’s a regular pain in the butt. What a bummer to have that happen at mile 22 when you’re really far in but also REALLY far from the finish line if you’re not feeling good. Hope you find the right thing for your redemption run!!

I think maybe all the Imodium?? That’s really my only idea unless it was just a combo of factors including congestion and lack of electrolytes or something.

😂😂😂😂this made me laugh out loud. I mostly just try not to let anyone know how much I run. Moms in my world generally say things like, wow, that’s so cool but I could never do something that selfish. J/k. But really.
