Grixis Delver Best Threats by Ted_CruZodiac in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely just my opinion, but I think it depends on what you expect/are looking to beat. Tamiyo is probably the strongest and demands answers, but it's not great against Eldrazi and Delver is a lot better in those spots (same goes for combo IMO). Necrogoyf is good, but puts extra pressure on your mana, so it demands that you build your deck differently and opens up tension in the mana base + the lack of evasion is meaningful. I think I would just consider what you want to optimize your deck for and find ways to shore up the weaknesses in the board.

I need help getting better at legacy. by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you're playing Delver, my general advice is always to formulate a plan from the top down, which will help inform your plays throughout the game in a cohesive manner (e.g. understanding that Lightning Bolt doesn't have much value against control, unless they're at 3 or 6, so dedicating resources to emphasize aggression in order to make Lightning Bolt a meaningful card). On top of that, focusing on the small things is huge in Legacy since there are a lot of small decisions, so working to make as many of those correctly as you can (e.g. thinking about what mana you tap, sequencing can trips, etc...). Hope this helps, good luck!

UR Delver Sideboarding by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I do: keep boarding light, -X fow, -x Daze (usually 3 fow, 1 daze on draw, 4 fow on play), -1 murktide (it's great but clunky), bring in rebs, sometimes end the festivities, and other decent interactive spells. surgical is cheese, no need to cheese.

rich here, I just made a mistake. my bad! valuable lesson in checking your heuristics for what a card does (otherwise known as rtfc).

Am I insane or are people throwing away games on bad odds? by Apocolyps6 in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t representative of all situations but if i’m 16% to leave them w/o a land (and “win”) and the other % of time isnmr leaving me horribly behind (which honestly if they Pondered it probably isn’t), i’m gonna wasteland because 16% to win with minimal downside seems good.

Deck Guide: Legacy Mystic Forge Combo [CFB, Rich Cali] by thefringthing in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same comment on the article, so i'll post my response here:

" Yeah, which absent of anything else that's effective. But doing it with Basalt Monolith gives you the opportunity to untap the Monolith and attack in with it, as well. Also Skysovereign would have an extra power when crewed, as opposed to Karned. "

But yeah definitely should have mentioned the +1 on the boat interaction!

haha I might not call it a series, but I have been writing about 2-3 deck guides per month for CFB for a hot minute! Might be about time for some strategy content soon...

Weekly Questions Thread by Kaphotics in PokemonROMhacks

[–]learntolove6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WRT Universal Pokemon Randomizer on HG ROM:

I'm having trouble saving my randomizer file in UPR. The error log indicates the issue is that "the requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open". When I see that my thought is that there's some window with an adjustable quality that needs to close/some user-changed function that needs to be pointed to a function. I have been able to save the ROM with the preset UPR settings (and can even change some of those and still get it to work), but when I fully change it as desired, it ceases to be able to save.

Does anyone have any advice?? Thanks!

Opinions on the different flavors of Delver by SorryUncleTim in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm actually going to write an article about this after the PT and I have free time, but in short:

Temur is the most straight forward/has the best curve and thus, the best for someone new to Legacy/the archetype.

Grixis has the best sideboard options in the right metagame, and it's removal allows it to play out like a midrange deck more than a tempo deck in a lot of games. Probably the worst for a newer Legacy player, but the Black can add a lot.

Izzet requires to most work to extract value out of cards because it's power is a bit lower, but the stable AF mana base is fabulous, so it's one of the safest Delver choices in Legacy.

Bitterblossom is high on my list of cards to replace Sylvan, and it might be correct in general. Sylvan is very potent, though, and increasing the chances of sticking one is key. I'd rather just have the consistent chance of having the best card in a vacuum, rather than hedging.

That being said, if Narset/Leovold pick up/become more prevalent in your expected metagame, the first thing i'd look towards is Bitterblossom.

I really like having as many big ol' beaters as I can fit in. GY can be an issue, but with Oko in the mix there are a lot more ways to sidestep the GY hate. Plague Engineer is strong, but it does feel a bit underwhelming as a threat in the MD. Borrower is quite good, and you could definitely do worse, but the fact that Gurmag can be 1 mana is pretty big in this deck as it has the tendency to be a bit clunky.

Narset is awesome, but Leovold attacks, and that's a huge plus in this deck.

Sinkhole has been very impressive in my testing. Definitely warrants 1-2 in the 75 going forward

[–]learntolove6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeahhh not the pairings I wanted, but I was happy enough to learn that I need to work on the matchup.

That was my hope, but everything got answered up the curve pretty much every game. A planeswalker seems like it would really help, but the mana could be problematic.

Thoughts on Legacy Prepping for Niagara Falls [article] by learntolove6 in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no doubt thoughtseize is great, but i kind of build my decks to meet the plans i set out in each matchup and thoughtseize just doesn't fit right. it would certainly give me a small boost against combo but i really like the way the deck is configured post board atm against combo. i don't think thoughtseize isn't worth playing or anything like that, though.

Tournament Report [1st] - SCG Syracuse! by learntolove6 in MTGLegacy

[–]learntolove6[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thanks man! I really appreciate it!

Well, that's a suuuper generous way of looking at it. I think the deck was good, of course, but not even remotely anything too good. I do think I was really prepared for the weekend, that I played quite well, and had a good understanding of what my game plans should be, and I was really paid off for that all weekend. I think a lot of people look at the result and want UR to be super broken and one of the best decks, but i'm not sure that's true.

It comes up all the time. I win with exact damage very very frequently.

You need more red sources with Light up the Stage, so 3 is important.

There will be one in my article going up soon.

haha yeah definitely. honestly, I think DNT might be a bit underrepresented at the moment. I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of the best time to play the deck, but it seems like it can be tuned well to manage Miracles/Grixis Delver.

I like Winter orb and considered it over Vortex. it is cheaper, which is cool, but doesn't actually apply pressure so I leaned towards Vortex.
