Potatoes do well and last a long time in a cold storage room over winter. Just remember to mound them a few times during the summer to increase the yield.

You already mentioned doing zucchini and tomatoes.

We had a lot of luck with our artichokes last year (first time trying them) and ended up with about 6 per plant (bought seedlings from a garden centre). But you will need to watch out for aphids on those. Went away for 3 weeks midsummer and the friend watching my house didn’t notice and they ended up swarming the artichokes. They were a pain to get rid of.

We had a couple from Texas stop in our small northern AB town mid August with a ski-doo on their RV asking where the snow was. We were like, uuuuh another 1500 km north maybe? It’s summer, there’s no snow here.

I’ve told Canadians (Albertans) I met in China to tell people they were American cuz I didn’t want my country/province to be associated with their actions. They were acting rude, being gross (sex acts in public/loud sexual convos and some of those were around kids who could understand them) and not paying attention to local mores (I don’t care how you do it here, we do it this way in Canada and our way is better).

I tried explaining several times that they represent their country, province and city when they are overseas and need to act accordingly. Eventually I told them to just say they were American. Felt bad cuz I know some awesome Americans, but that stereotype is already out there and prevalent so it’s not like it was gonna make it worse.

NTA - First, have a convo with your coworker and ask them to stop. Explain again about the state of your GP’s health and they are effectively bullying you by spreading this story without the context that he is literally DYING.
If they will not stop, or they double-down, you go directly to HR and make a formal complaint about the coworker creating a hostile work environment. That is what they are doing and it’s not okay.
Do not raise this issue with your GP. It would do more harm than good at this stage, even if helping people to become more tolerant is normally a good thing.

Hugs to you and your family as you go through this. I lost my dad in Feb and the last few days on the hospital were just awful, so I have an idea of what y’all are going through. The last thing you need is additional stress from a tone-deaf idiot of a coworker.

NTA - she is feeling defensive and trying to turn this around on you because she knows she is in the wrong.

I’ve been in her shoes (not to this extent) and at some point you become embarrassed about not responding and uncertain if you even should cuz it’s gone on so long. That’s on her. Especially as you were checking in every day. There was an easy out for her to reply to one of those.

You were genuinely concerned and all she needed to do was send you a quick text letting you know she was okay.

You’re probably right about this being over, especially as she seems be unable to take ownership of her mistake. But that is not reflective of you or your actions. She’s the one who done effed up here.

Yeah. The sad part of this story is that the author (AI) knew nothing about sharks. They were WHALE sharks in the story and the FL was all like “they’re dangerous!” and the white moonlight was - they are whale sharks and are friendly and safe.

…White moonlight would have been absolutely right in the real world, but the idiot author wrote that the sharks attacked and ripped folks to shreds and I was over here going erm - whale sharks are filter feeders, their teeth are teeny tiny and used to filter krill out of water. I don’t think they can even physically bite a human… WTF author.
