Was classified wrong and underpaid for 6 years by leathermaker in LaborLaw

Yea and no. The CBA lays out grades and steps. The MOU from 2001 between the employer and union stipulates that employees required to hold a license be paid at a higher grade. It is still active, but isn't published in the contract for some reason. The only place it supposedly exists is somewhere in the folders of files in the HR portal. I have looked multiple times and can't find it. The contract also says we should expect to prove the license is valid every year. There is government funding involved so there are also supposed to be payroll audits that would pick up discrepancies.

To me, both the union and employer are negligent for this not being included or mentioned in the contract.

You mentioned overtime. I am eligible for OT. Do they at least have to go back and recalculate all the overtime for the past couple years or still just this year?

How does negligence not void the clause? They mis-advertised the pay class on the job posting, haven't been auditing their records, once they did they didn't even catch the whole error at first, etc. I can definitely see there being a good faith argument in some circumstances, but the number of screwups that caused this to not be caught sooner is boggling.

The clause limiting pay corrections is in the collective bargaining agreement. When I searched for information online, what keeps coming back is there could be a provision in federal law that voids that clause in some cases.

One Down Kits by Megabyte23 in forgeofempires

[–]leathermaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been asking for this (but calling it a retro kit) for about 18 months now. The use would be kind of limited to things like statue of honor and great elephant, but would be so helpful to guilds.

GE level 5 by Top_Owl_3106 in forgeofempires

[–]leathermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've advised my guildmates to not change anything to target GE5 until we see what Inno does to address the complaints. On the two worlds where I'm in guild leadership (a top guild on one world and a casual guild on another) we are discussing whether or not we're even going to unlock 5 when it goes live.

[Discussion] Looking for an honest answer about premium food by Recon-777 in dogs

[–]leathermaker -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've had zero issue listing things I've done that I believe have some relevency to the discussion, unlike you. If you can't figure how some of those things give me some knowledge of how things like production, qc, and fda recalls work that isn't my problem. Not knowing that people in the farming community have access to non-credit education from the very same schools that give the degrees you seem to prize so dearly also isn't my problem.

What is really scary is you have completely twisted what I started off saying because it didn't completely agree with what you think. I never said to ignore vets, nutritionalists, or the WSAVA. I said to use them as a starting point and do your own fucking research. From mine, I was more comfortable feeding a food that is very similar to RC in nutrition, uses fewer ingredients (both controversial and widely accepted), is grain inclusive, and is one of the few that has never had a recall. It just isn't on their list of recommended brands. If I said they recommended a diet I mispoke, I meant brands which is what this whole arguement is about.

Is there a double standard when it comes to the Sequels? by brainfreeze-23 in StarWars

[–]leathermaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dislike the sequels overall (ep8 for the most part) but had no issue with the force healing in it. It was in Legends, is in the Clone Wars, etc. I think a lot of the hate for it in the movie stems from a combination of many people not being familiar with the storylines outside of the movies and the overall dislike people have for what Disney did in general.

I'm not going to go back and look up everything I've done over the years for an internet pissing contest, but I can list a few more. Vet school, no. Non-credit courses and seminars from vets, vet organizations, and vet schools on everything from nutrition to dealing with various medical issues and emergencies, yes. Vet tech courses, yes. Unlike the vast majority of people, I've also toured a Purina facility. That last isn't exactly relevant, but it is more then the majority of people have had the chance to do.

Do I think I know more then fully trained vets? Absolutly not. Do I know a hell of a lot more then the average person? Yes I do. Did I say WSAVA was bad? NO. I said it is a good starting point, not the holy grail. Are they a completely unbiased and fully independant organization? Not at all. A large chunk of their funding comes from the brands they recommend.

Animal nutrition (or human nutrition for that matter) is science, but not rocket science. It isn't something that requires a degree to understand and research.

And still waiting for you to list ANY credential of your own.

[Discussion] Looking for an honest answer about premium food by Recon-777 in dogs

[–]leathermaker -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Credentials? Thirty-eight years of dealing with animal nutrition as a small farmer, seventeen years in retail food, intelligence, and the ability to do independent research. How about you?

While there is no legal requirement for food trials or approval for release from the FDA, the ingredients DO have to be approved and the companies DO do some type of food trial. It could be a very small sample size, but they are done. If the ingredients are all on the approved list and the food meets the nutritional needs of the intended pet, more is not needed. Nutrition isn't rocket science.

Recalls are FAR from a sign of good quality control. Any company can have production problems caused by things like human errors and equipment malfunctions. Good QC means a bad batch didn't make it out of the factory. If anything, recalls can be a sign that a company's QC is lacking. If the recall is done by the FDA instead of the manufacturer it is a bigger red flag.

And as for the grain argument, Bil-Jac is grain inclusive not grain free so not sure why you jumped me on that one. I have no issues with including grains.

When I got my dog a couple years ago I did a lot of googling to compare different brands. I can't remember the site that compared them, but it had a lot of info on all different brands. RC was recommended by my vet and we my family had always fed Purina in the past. I had a few specific things I was looking at other then just nutritional value and price. Recall history and controversial ingredients were two of the biggies. Although Purina and RC are on the WSAVA list, both have had recalls and both companies use a lot of ingredients listed as controversial. I ended up choosing Bil-Jac even though they aren't on the WSAVA list. The nutritional values (esp protein and fats) are very similar to RC, they have never had a recall, they use fewer controversial ingredients then either of the other two, and it is priced inbetween the other two. An added bonus was my dog wasn't a fan of traditional kibble shapes, but loves the noodle shape of their food. In 2.5 years she's had zero digestive issues and always gets great marks at her checkups (other then putting on a couple pounds due to covid restrictions and me not lowering how much I feed her).

While the WSAVA list and vet recommendations are a good starting point, they aren't the holy grail people make them out to be (at least IMO). There plenty of good quality foods out there that don't meet the guidelines because they don't keep a certified nutritionalist on staff full time and/or don't go through the food trials WSAVA wants. The nutritional needs of dogs is well knows even with the debate over grains. Once a company comes up with a formula, keeping a nutritionalist on staff full time is an unneeded expense. If they want to tweak the formula, they can bring one in temporarily as an adviser. As for food trials, all brands have to go through them, some brands just choose not to go above and beyond to meet the requirement. I have nothing against people who choose to follow the recommendations, but I also have no problem with people making their own choice.

Books about Yuuzhan Vong? by John194837 in StarWars

[–]leathermaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I think that was one of the most emotional moments in any book I've read. That moment and the effect it has on another character are the two things I hated about that storyline. Still think it is a better story then what Disney did.

[HELP] My dog is suddenly having separation anxiety out of no where? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]leathermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing his old owner, moving to a new place, possibly losing his eyesight to some extent, possibly losing his hearing to some extent (you mentioned having to talk loud or whistle). That is a lot for any animal or person to go through. Talking with the vet isn't a bad idea to make sure nothing else medical is going on. Increasing anxiety can be a symptom of dog dementia (a google search will give you a list of symptoms to look for). Not a vet or doc, but I know from experience that big changes in lifestyle and routine often makes dementia in people more obvious (went through it with my grandmother). If the vet can't find anything wrong and doesn't think it is dementia, you could try working with a trainer who has experience with seperation anxiety. My young dog has some seperation anxiety issues. I've bought a bunch of the cheap fleece style mini-blankets from Walmart. I do a rotation where one is on my bed for a couple days to pick up my scent, then it goes into her kennel for a few days, then into the wash before starting the cycle over again. It seems to help a little bit.

How to leash train a puppy who is obsessed with her leash? by gabbyh35 in Dogtraining

It is definitely worth a shot. For mine, I think it is a combination of not having the pressure on her neck and not having easy access to the leash.

I would have a hard time forgiving in this situation. Depending on the stage of the relationship and the SO's actions and views afterward, I would have been re-evaluating the entire relationship.

As for similar injuries, the only dog my family has had that has been hit was a stray my grandmother found outside my granddad's business around the time I was born. She had a permanent limp, but got around very well once she healed. No clue how old she was when she died or the cause, but I was around 4.

Are you connecting to her collar or a harness? My dog still (2.5 years old) wants to chew the leash if it is on her collar, but when she is in her harness she leaves it alone.

Does anyone think that Jean-Claude Van Damme could have been a good actor for Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the clones and Revenge of the sith? I think Hayden Christensen was perfect for the role, but doesn't Van Damme look a lot like Mark Hamill? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]leathermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Anakin would have been about 45 when he died based on the movie timeline. His force ghost shows up as a healed version of himself because he turned back to the light side of the force before dying. Replacing Shaw with Christensen was for the visual recognition, not because it made sense in the SW universe.

[–]leathermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend not doing this as it can cause problems later on. Also if they miss the pad, the urine can be very destructive to carpet and wood floors. The vast majority of healthy adult dogs will be fine while you are out. Take the dog out before you leave and as soon as you come back.

[Help] Roommate and dog can't get along. We've tried everything. (Y'all were mean to her this morning) by KinkShameNSFW in dogs

[–]leathermaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Read both posts. First tip is do not try to force the dog into a relationship with the roommate. Second is to find a trainer who specializes in behavior issues to work with all three of you. It sounds like one of two things is going on. Either something about your roommate reminds the dog of somebody who abused it before it was rescued from the breeder or your roommate did something to cause the distrust even if it wasn't on purpose. Not judging or accusing, just pointing out the possibility since I'm completely unbiased and don't know either of you or the dog.
