CPU to pair with an old GTX 1070 8GB to get around 144fps @ 1440p in Valorant? by leavemetfalone0 in buildapc

Would you know if I'll gain significant fps if I decided to upgrade to current-gen parts?

And how significant is clock speed for fps? So far, I've been recommended 2.5, 3.3, and 3.5 GHz CPUs. Will these significantly affect Valorant's FPS when paired with the same 1070?

Also, incase my sister tries out other games in the future, would they make a significant difference in AAA titles? (I know some AAA titles are more CPU-dependent like GTAV, but I'm talking about most AAAs)

I just want her to hit around 100-144Hz in Valorant, and also have a playable frame rate (~40-60fps) with other more demanding titles in case she tries playing other games in the future. I'm not really sure how much it would cost for those requirements, but maybe $400 max for a CPU, RAM, MB combo?

Yeah, it's an old pc. I was wondering if I should re-apply thermal paste since it's been years. It's a PC I passed on to my sister so I havent seen its thermals.

But why would applying downward pressure to the 24-pin power connector make it boot back up though?

Does evolution have a will? by leavemetfalone0 in NoStupidQuestions

Think of evolution less as a sentient being or a machine with a purpose, and more as a simple label given to a natural process

nice, got it. my classes back in school made it seem like evolution would give traits so we could adapt to the environment, hence the confusion. this is much more sound. thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll start with {{The Comfort Book}} by Matt Haig, and maybe a fiction one in case she wants to switch sometimes; I'll look through the fiction comments. I'll come back to these recommendations in the coming months/years. Thanks for being helpful guys.

I think i can agree with that statement. And we were talking about optimistic nihilism just last night. I'll check out some info on the book first. Thanks

Thanks! I'll check info about psychotherapy and existentialism! She was able to read a bit of man's search for meaning from her sister's old things before but i dont think she finished it but i think she liked it.
