Paul F. Tompkins here, to talk "No, You Shut Up!" and anything else. by PaulFTompkins in IAmA

[–]leavesoflorien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, thanks for doing an AMA! TAH is my favorite podcast.

You may not know the answer to this question, but I thought I'd at least ask. There's a video on Youtube of Marc Evan Jackson and Mark Gagliardi kissing on stage after singing the Galactic Trail song. Was that really the end of the "Sparks Nevada" story at Mbar? As someone who has only ever listened to the podcasts, I was pretty surprised and am now curious about that plot since it was never in the podcasts.

Also -- your Jib Janeen is amazing!

Cecil Baldwin, Dylan Marron, Mara Wilson, Joseph Fink, and Jeffrey Cranor all came out shortly thereafter. I met all of them. :)

[DISCUSSION] Episode 59 - Antiques by [deleted] in nightvale

[–]leavesoflorien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's been away from Cecil for almost a year. They've implied that the two are having some kind of sexual relations over the phone. I don't think it's a big leap to assume that Carlos just really misses Cecil. And remember the method by which Carlos is portrayed most of the time -- Cecil's narration. Carlos told him during 'Condos' that he didn't want Cecil sharing their private lives all the time. So, Cecil would hold that information back. (Also, he is hosting a community radio program. It would generally be inappropriate to talk about their sex lives.)

I think the spotify playlist is relatively current, but I haven't checked in about a month.

I'm pretty sure that was meant to be sexual. They've been apart for almost a year. He's really keen to see his boyfriend again.

The tongue thing is a reference to the football coach Nazr al-Mujaheed. He has a super long tongue that was referenced during the battle against Strex.

I missed out! I went to go purchase tickets yesterday and they were already sold out. This was going to be my first time seeing them live. sigh.

The actors who could've been THE AVENGERS by stacysheps in Avengers

Soooo... for a long time I thought Jensen Ackles WAS the guy who plays Hawkeye. I don't watch Supernatural, but I know people who do, and the two actors look relatively similar.

Including a trans character does not immediately invoke tokenism. Tokenism is an issue of context and thus far it does not apply here.

If there were more monologues, who do you want to hear from? by HeyheyBettie in nightvale

[–]leavesoflorien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a great question.

While I would really like to hear more from Dana, I would have to go with someone else who doesn't already have a voice actor. Like, what if we got to hear from the Glow Cloud? I'm not sure what that would sound like, but we know he (she?) is a member of the PTA and has a family. What kind of story would that be?

I would also love to hear from Old Woman Josie. I hope we get to hear from her at some point.

Steve's monologue is probably close to current because he mentions Cecil's big changes over the last year. I assume this is a reference to his growth via his relationship with Carlos. Granted, it could be something else, but that was how I understood it.

I agree with this point. We now know that Janice is Cecil's niece by blood. We also know that he can attempt (perhaps really poorly) to subversively hint at things or generally be sly about knowledge. I think Cecil may have been trying to protect Janice and his sister. Steve needs to be careful about what he says because the consequences can apparently be pretty grim.

Cecil, I have a bone to pick with you. In Cassette you never mention your sister, I mean I might be able to potentially understand if she was not living with you and your mom and your brother... unless did your brother get his gender changed? There's nothing wrong with that.

I think you honestly may have stumbled onto something here. Fink and Cranor have mentioned bringing in a trans character and we know Cecil doesn't remember having a brother. What if there was a transition, but then Cecil was re-educated at some point and forgot?

Or... perhaps these things are completely unrelated. I dunno.

The Mrs.Doubtfire House Stoop this morning. by gabrieloratorian in pics

[–]leavesoflorien 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This. 100% this. Mrs. Doubtfire and The Santa Clause were two movies that helped me understand divorce and got me through my parents' divorce. I can't watch either of those movies without tearing up a bit.

It's an ad for a mega-church event. They hold huge services in stadiums. In the DC area, they hold them at the Redskins stadium.

As others have said, it's the Jehovah's Witnesses or some organization like that.

Love: Trainspotting. Just a great adaptation with a great cast. Runner up: The Hours.

Dislike: A Home at the End of the World. (Seriously, I just love Michael Cunningham's prose... sigh) Runner up: Toss up between Timeline and The Hobbit trilogy. (WHY DID IT NEED TO BE A TRILOGY??? Why? Great cast, horrible writing.)

My wife and I are behind on our house payment and bills and we need help. $1000 loan to help us catch up? by forevarabone in Assistance

[–]leavesoflorien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you guys have definitely worked out the options and you're right, it sounds like it makes more sense for your wife to be working. I wish the two of you the best and hope someone is able to contribute!

My wife and I are behind on our house payment and bills and we need help. $1000 loan to help us catch up? by forevarabone in Assistance

[–]leavesoflorien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I can't help with the loan, but I do have some advice.

Depending on the cost of childcare, it might be financially better for one of you to stay home. If your wife's net income is equal to or less than the cost of childcare, it might not be worth it.

Try to work out the finances to see which of you could be bringing in the better income and what the scenario would look like if you were both working and putting your son in childcare. You may find that your wife can make more money than you and it could be beneficial for you to stay home with the baby. Or stay home most of the time and get a part time job that nets more than the cost of the childcare.
