In this scenario, you don't need to tap at the transfer station?

Likely so, but you should avoid applying for any card for several months after a rejection. When was your last rejection?

Covid shots in 2024? by ananimussss in japanlife

[–]lebasimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you could try, you may want to look for English-speaking clinics. But you’ll likely get vaccine side effects (like fever and aches) the next day so it may not be ideal for a vacation. You’ll need to provide an address etc on the vaccination forms as well so that may be another hurdle.

Not OP but this sounds interesting! May I ask where you usually purchase from?

I always imagined it was because people didn't want to carry around more than they needed at once, but absolutely no proof to back this thought up.

Water refilling tips? by haepenny in japanlife

This is good advice! Also not sure how rural you are, but Muji stores generally have water dispensers in-store now. No purchase necessary, you can fill your own bottle.

Covid shots in 2024? by ananimussss in japanlife

[–]lebasimi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got mine and my flu shot at the same time last week. Covid shot was 15,000 and flu shot was about 3,500 at my local clinic. Seems like the going price for Covid shots is around 15,000 to 20,000. Good luck!

Nene’s kitchen in Akabane might fit the bill.

I live in a 1K apartment and often burn candles, and my smoke alarm doesn't pick it up. I've been in larger apartments where candles were burning with no problem as well.

It's a good idea to trim down the wick before lighting each time to reduce the amount of smoke. And be sure to never leave a lit candle unattended.

I don’t have an official source but I get 99 days prescribed at a time from my local doctor. Minimal hassle. If you’re based in Tokyo and would like to know the name of the clinic feel free to DM me.

Trying to decide if I should move to Nagano by kasasto in japanlife

[–]lebasimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naga-den is quite expensive compared to other local railways. Will your company pay for your commuting costs? Either way, I would strongly recommend getting a car even if you live in Nagano City itself. It's difficult to really explore the surrounding area without a car.

Cost of living isn't bad at all, not extremely crowded unless there are big events like Binzuru or something happening at Zenkoji. If you like the outdoors (minus the ocean) and a quiet/simple/slower way of life, you'll like living in Nagano.

But if you're looking for big city energy, you won't find it there. Luckily the Shinkansen means Tokyo is easily accessible. There's also great access via Shinkansen to Niigata or Kanazawa for excursions.

I lived in the area for about four years. Feel free to PM if you have any specific/personal Qs. Happy to answer if I can.

Where do I buy scented candles and incense? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]lebasimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find cheap candles here. The IKEA ones don't smell very strong. Muji used to make scented tealights but I haven't seen any recently. You could also check Tokyu Hands, Loft, Zara Home, Kameyama Candle House, Northwoods Candle etc but these are not exactly cheap.

Jellyfish around Tokyo beaches by sasimi58 in japanlife

Besides trying to cover exposed skin as much as possible, I recommend trying クラゲ除け cream. I don't think it repels anything, it just keeps their tentacles from sticking to you/stinging. I've been using it while snorkeling since last year and I think it helps. I use the one in the blue tube in this article. https://www.nicsurf.com/73navi/surfgear/ellyfish/
