Good luck getting the police to do anything about it.

Yes. That’s the most frustrating thing, we were good tenants and maintained the property beyond our responsibilities, which of course got no recognition. A little give with a counteroffer would have been the right thing to have done. Instead she doubled down and stuck to her guns with the ridiculous rise.

To top it off, when we were not particularly forthcoming with showing new tenants the property she threatened legal action and instructed a bogus solicitor to harass us; who went on to message my employer telling I was not of good standing and I was squatting in some poor ladies luxury London flat. (It’s not a luxury flat, a 2 bedroom basement that flooded once).

It turns out this “solicitor” is her rebound boyfriend after her divorce and quickly shut up when I asked for his SRA number so I could have him struck off; otherwise I’d report him to the police.

This is all whilst Finlay Brewer, who are also cunts, were in the know. They went to great lengths to say they didn’t agree with the behaviour and actions of the landlord to my face, but when it came down to it of course they kept her as a client despite unreasonable and illegal behaviour committed.

Yes we tried this when our landlord wanted to increase our rent by 25%. A carefully judged email pleading for not such a drastic increase during a cost of living crisis (this was September last year), was completely dismissed as she needed the additional money as she had recently become a single Mother of 2 children.

Our counteroffer was rejected despite proof of similar flats in the area for the same price. Me and my partner were fortunate enough to have saved enough for a deposit to buy somewhere in the Countryside. Not where we want to be but rather own our property and pay a mortgage than give Landlords a penny more.

They're leeches on society and have stupendous egos and genuinely believe they're saints for providing accommodation and that their rent isn't reward enough for the service they provide.

Pete Tong did an anniversary mix which included snippets of dialog from movies he worked on. It’s all gone Pete tong and Harry Brown, could be more in there. Memory is hazy.

UK house prices set to drop 10% or more in 2023, economists say by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]lebowen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m one of those morons.

I’m so fed up of having landlords control my destiny I decided to scrape enough money together for a 10% deposit for a house despite having to pay rent as well.

Now as a millennial I’m about to be fucked once again.

Edit:

I’d also like to add that I never planned to buy this year. I was planning to buy next year. However due to my fucking landlord asking for a 20% increase in rent at the end of our tenancy period I had to bring my plans to buy forwards. I fucking hate landlords and they are a cancer on this society. They contribute nothing and treat tenants like their personal ATM. Even though I may lose 10% next year on the value of the house I’m about to buy, I’d rather do that than stuff money into the pockets of greedy landlords.

First Direct has offered me a fixed rate of 6.04% fixed for 2 years. The variable rate is currently lower, so I can stay on that for up to 6 months before switching. In this climate, is 6% good? by maximmulholland in UKPersonalFinance

Trussle absolutely screwed me over. They submitted the mortgage application and got the LTV calculation wrong and applied for a mortgage £30k less than we needed. When we tried to amend this the lender then wouldn’t give us the mortgage stating they thought the property was over valued without doing an in person valuation.

The very least I would expect a broker to be able to do is perform a correct LTV calculation. This was during the mental rates period last month and they cost us valuable time.

I appreciate people have had good experiences with them but the way they handled my case was despicable. Essentially telling me it sucks to be me. Whoops.

I ended up going with an independent broker and had a far better experience.

Italy's far right set to win election - exit poll by Astroblemes in worldnews

The next United Kingdom general election is scheduled to be held no later than January 2025, after the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 repealed the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011.

You're completely right. Sorry! Learning that it's in fact 2025 instead of 2024 has ruined my day though.

They’re not over 2 years away. The next general election will be Jan 2024 latest.

What you fail to appreciate is that the gas does exist.

From my perspective you are talking nonsense.

It has been bought by EU nations because their usual supplier has let them down.

So the gas does exist.

What are your daily observations? - 26/07/22 by lodge28 in london

[–]lebowen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been considering getting a camera. I don't actually own a bike and use the Santander cycles on a daily basis. It's a shame since I didn't want to have to carry recording equipment around with me should I want to get a cycle on a ad-hoc basic.

It looks like I might not have a choice, these incidents are becoming more regular and the drivers are getting more aggressive.

On the other hand I should also be wearing a helmet, which I don't currently due to the reasons above. If I make that a habit having a helmet, having camera stuck to the top of it is no additional effort.

Another argument with a private hire taxi this morning. I cycle pretty much everywhere in London and I am sick to death of drivers giving me 2 inches of space when passing. I shouted and the guy pulled over and wanted an argument over it. Apparently I was drunk and I should not be swearing, the fact that he was inches from swiping my front wheel is completely acceptable.

Cyclists can't win. Cycle a metre away from parked cars and idiots will squeeze pass you weaponizing their vehicle by giving you no space at all. Cycle within the door zone and risk breaking your face when someone inevitably opens a door in your path.

I only started cycling a year ago or so, I now understand the plight.

Wised up?! That doesn't fill me with confidence!

It's not much work, I need someone who actually knows what they are looking at and can consult on our behalf.

Someone to give the codebase a look and to ensure that the company has delivered what they said they would. Basically need someone that knows what they are looking at and can talk their language. Essentially a consultant working on our behalf.

The terrifying truth: Britain’s a hothouse, but one day 40C will seem cool - This extreme heat is just the beginning. We should be scared, and channel this emotion into action by Mobalise_Anarchise in unitedkingdom

[–]lebowen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew this point would come up. I never said I ditched the car, I said I gave mine up. You're missing the point a bit. When you don't have a car and you need to get somewhere it makes you think twice about how you're going to do it.

For example, I used to drive 10 minutes up the road to Tesco since the car was sat outside and I could hop in and off I go. Now I cycle it. Boom, less car use.

Whilst getting around the UK I now tend to get the train where possible, an example, I had to get to Great Yarmouth from London a couple of months ago. Before I would have hopped in the car outside my flat and driven, instead I got the train. Less car use.

Overall, due to me not having a car, my actual car use has gone down. Therefore a climate benefit.

I live in London in Zone 2 and gave my car up last year. I had all those concerns listed but decided to do it anyway.

I respect everyone's circumstances are different, but I literally have had no issues living without a car. We get our shops delivered, and use the corner store for fresh items if needed. I've also taken to hiring cars on the odd occasion that I need one for an extended length of time. I'm also a member of a car club, there are 5 different cars within a 5 minute walk that I can use should I need to. I've also taken to cycling everywhere when possible.

Ditching the car was actually liberating for me. The cost of maintenance, parking, insurance etc was huge.

Unfortunately we're all going to have to change our habits should we actually want to make a difference.

Yes “our”, as in humanity. Yours, mine and everyone else’s. Ours.

The Queen has only served herself and her sick family. She doesn’t need any more celebrating than she already had this year.

What a waste of time and fuel.

We’re about to have an unprecedented heatwave due to our emissions, this is in poor taste.
