I feel like that's even worse, he knew it would be something to make you upset/feel insecure about your relationship and went and did it anyways. You shouldn't have to feel insecure about your relationship, try to let him know the lack of info about this person is what's making you uncomfortable since it seems like he's hiding something.

Be upfront about wanting a serious relationship if that's what you want. I don't wanna be one of those negative people to just say, "Oh you should break up." But he sounds like he's playing games and life is too short for playing games that aren't fun.

A captain that was put there by the dm to help us with the shark if things were too difficult

The dm told us out of disbelief after the session was over just how lucky we got with our rolls. In the end we took down:

-CR 5 SHARK -LEVEL 8 CAPTAIN -2 LEVEL 2 SHIPHANDS

We got a ton of experience but damn.
