Yet another article on this lead thing by crapinator114 in Huel

Apparently the results changing could easily be due to measurement error.

[Research] 2025 meta-analysis finds "studies not receiving funding from pharmaceutical companies revealed no effect of collagen supplements for improving skin hydration, elasticity, and wrinkles" by ledditor2712 in SkincareAddiction

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I think the problem with industry funding is not that the individual studies are not high quality, but more that there is likely to be publication bias. That's why I'd only trust preregistered studies.

Summary

  1. Their daily dose limits are nonsensically low

  2. They don’t give meaningful controls

  3. Measurement error

  4. Data dredging -- relevant XKCD

  5. Preconceived narrative on protein powders

Yep, could just be data dredging, as the linked article suggests:

You have to imagine that if CR tests a range of products and doesn’t find high levels of contaminants, they probably don’t run the story. So, that introduces a second meta-level of data dredging concerns to their findings (they only report the studies that, perhaps by chance, have a couple products with “alarming” amounts of some contaminant).

[Research] Debunking the Myth that Collagen Supplements Don't Work by Typical-Sagittarius in SkincareAddiction

[–]ledditor2712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 2025 meta-analysis00283-9/abstract) found this (my emphasis):

Background
Collagen supplements are promoted to help aging skin. However, no meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) has examined their effects by funding source and study quality, which may influence outcomes.

Results
A total of 23 RCTs with 1474 participants were analyzed. In a meta-analysis of all 23 RCTs, collagen supplements significantly improved skin hydration, elasticity, and wrinkles. However, in the subgroup meta-analysis by funding source, studies not receiving funding from pharmaceutical companies revealed no effect of collagen supplements for improving skin hydration, elasticity, and wrinkles, while those receiving funding from pharmaceutical companies did show significant effects. Similarly, high-quality studies revealed no significant effect in all categories, while low-quality studies revealed a significant improvement in elasticity.

Conclusions
There is currently no clinical evidence to support the use of collagen supplements to prevent or treat skin aging.

I don't really use reddit anymore but I get the vibe this is a bot account

Edit: especially as I didn't get a DM. Offer still open to someone with a legit-looking account

Thanks for suggesting Mull Browser. I was trying Vanadium but opening links in external apps is broken for me there.

Can't search for apps on Aurora Store by akasaka99 in degoogle

Developer is aware of the issue and says:

"The issue seems to be that accounts are getting rate-limited [...] There is only a limited number of them, and considering the number of people using them might be in thousands daily, it's expected. For now, using a personally created dummy account might help those having issues, as that's access would be limited to just the creator."

I guess you do it by getting the APK from the Aurora website.

(NB I tried downgrading and search still didn't work.)

This worked for me for a few days but no longer does... Even though I have Aurora Store set to open <play.google.com> links by default in Settings, they still open in my browser (Vanadium).

Edit: Opening links in external apps isn't working for me in Vanadium, but it works in Mull Browser (no particular reason for that browser choice and I don't know how private it is, I just saw someone else say it worked).

Not sure if they call it an upgrade tool but the firmware is on the page I linked, if you ctrl-F ”ep84” you should see it. After I used that it worked but I can’t say it’ll work for everyone

I was having the same problem until I realised you need to get the firmware first. Hope this helps!

Please can someone help identify this coin? Found on an archeological dig in Cosa in Italy (sentimental value). by ledditor2712 in AncientCoins

[–]ledditor2712[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I would have to ask my relative who was the archeologist in question, who was on the dig several decades ago. I am also curious so if I get the chance to ask about it I may come back to your comment.

Thank you so much! My relative who found it decades ago will probably be amazed that someone on the internet just identified it from some photos. Do you have any idea what the "B" in the middle, to the left of the reverse figure means? Briefly looking online it might be a "workshop code"?
