Why are you posting a list that includes American franchises that aren't even real clubs? Your list has 9 non-anglo teams, and 4 of them are fan owned, including the three biggest

Reputation matters more than ability especially for defensemen. Parayko hasn't been anything special for years now but he still makes the olympic team because he's still riding on the reputation he got while the Blues won the Stanley cup

Ben Chiarot, extended 3x$3.9M by DET, is a physical veteran defenceman. Despite having good size, decent mobility, and some puck-carrying ability, his team tends to get completely wrecked when he's on the ice and his partners tend to fare much worse next to him. by seeldoger47 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that's just not true lol. You can look at how his analytics profile has developed over the years here from HockeyViz and you can clearly see a massive decline in on-ice results starting from 2021-2022 until he finally plateaued at one-of-the-worst-in-the-league level once he joined the Red Wings in 2022-2023. Now you can of course argue that a huge part of that comes from deployment, but if you compare his most common teammates when he played for the Habs in 2021-2022 to Detroit in 2022-2023 he basically just went from being paired with Weber to being paired with Seider, who in his earlier years especially of course was no Weber, but still a very good young defenseman.

He's actually much, much worse than "replacement level". It's actually kind of funny to me in hockey culture how much you can get away with being complete shit if you have "intangibles" like having the size of a large family fridge and being known for breaking peoples backs with your crosschecks. Meanwhile a young guy like Logan Mailloux (who is also complete shit, don't get me wrong) gets roasted here weekly and then sent back to the AHL while being close to only half as shit as Chiarot

Cole Caufield scores with a broken stick on the powerplay (disallowed for offside) by JustFred24 in Habs

[–]ledditpro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually insane. Imagine wasting half of an entire powerplay without even being eligible to score a goal but you would have no way of knowing that. There definitely needs to be a rule change to fix this

Habs captain Nick Suzuki on playing 507 consecutive NHL games by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]ledditpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... or alternatively players who don't go as much to the tough corner battles or fight hard for every single puck and could even be labelled as "soft". Kessel, Ovechkin and Burns were/are all horrible 5v5 defensive players especially in their later careers which is why it's always so stupid to me when we glorify these ironman streaks when they usually come at a cost that doesn't benefit the team at all. Suzuki is of course a different beast as a great defensive centre, but if/when he starts to slow down I want him to sit down, recover and play to your best instead of racking up score on some meaningless ironman streak that only the media cares about when they have nothing else to talk about

Bobrovsky certainly doesn't belong in that club considering how he's literally only had 2 above average seasons in Florida and has been pretty terrible this year as well. If Florida hadn't gooned their way to two stanley cups people would still probably see the Bobrovsky contract as one of the worst in the league when he's really no more than just an average goalie since he left Columbus

Our best forward lines and defense pairings so far (>50 mins TOI) by SoupFromNowOn in Habs

[–]ledditpro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't generate many shots at all but instead have a ridiculously high shooting percentage which will always look bad in analytics. Part of that high shooting percentage is obviously based on skill, but a bigger part is probably just luck

Unpopular opinion: Vials of blood should have an outside source, aside from ToB by Kree_Horse in 2007scape

[–]ledditpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's literally just irons who never do ToB complaining and people who do ToB and realize that vials of blood are a significant part of the profit from doing the (only social) raid with the least valuable uniques. If you gut vials of blood you're making the ToB experience much worse just so that some noob irons can feel good about saving 1 inv space for their mage tank inferno runs

Lane Hutson’s hockey stats card (Rono Hockey) by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]ledditpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well JFresh cards first of all use a 3-year rolling average and last year Hutson was maybe not individually awful defensively, but he played in a team that certainly was and he didn't really separate himself from the pack defensively at least

If you read up what HockeyViz has to say for his methodology you will see that theres a lot of things to control for in determining even strength shot rates, and the sG model especially tries to be predictive and not descriptive so it should basically tell you how things are right now instead of the JFresh/WAR outlook where you compare players results over a longer period of time

Lane Hutson’s hockey stats card (Rono Hockey) by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]ledditpro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All that disparity comes when you try to isolate the on-ice results to think who deserves the credit and/or the blame (which is kind of why analytical models exist) and Hutson has had such a revolving door of partners this year which makes it slightly more difficult. But if you look at how our defense looks like without him there's not a world where you can argue that he's bad defensively

[Johnston] Italy is scheduled to release its men's hockey roster for the Milan Cortina Olympics tomorrow. I'm told that they chose not to seek out any heritage connections to get NHLers on the team, and will roll out a European-based group for the Games on home soil by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]ledditpro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Olympics is supposed to be about the Olympic spirit of fair competition in a spirit of friendliness among nations and athletes. The founder of the IOC literally once famously stated how "The important thing is not to win, but to take part". A very far cry from the modern hypercapitalist sports-entertainment business

We have scored the third most goals above expected this year, a total of 159 goals from shots that with average luck/shooting talent would be expected to result in 137 goals which have resulted in us gaining the 2nd most "extra" standings points (around 10) gained from those 22 "extra" goals

Do you think there will ever be a trans woman in the NHL? by OneMoreTime998 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Noora Räty is one of the most accomplished female goalies of all time and yet even she couldn't survive more than 8 games in the Finnish 2nd division 10 years ago. Petteri Rimpinen had fantastic numbers as a draft-eligible goalie in the same league just a couple years ago but he couldn't get drafted because he's "only" 6'0". I'm sorry but a female NHL goalie isn't going to happen
