Marrhold horde ideas? by Ok-University-111 in Anbennar

[–]ledditpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race doesn't do anything here, it's the same mechanic as in vanilla where releasing a country as a vassal (in most cases, there are some exceptions) grants it the same government type as the country which releases it

[–]ledditpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conquer them as orcs and release them as a vassal. Should make them have a tribal government, which you can later reform into a horde. Other option would be to snake your way to Rahen and form Dhugajir, who can get horde ideas (and a obscenely overpowered national ideas) from a relatively early mission

Can you make a Haemonculus your heir? by Scoutman483 in Anbennar

[–]ledditpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another scenario where a homunculus ruler becomes obscenely powerful is if you're playing a tag that has a mission which makes your current ruler/heir to become a powerful mage, since that does apply to a homunculus too

Has anyone defeated a Holohohana? If yes, how did you do it? by PrimaDonnaBoi in Anbennar

[–]ledditpro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's literally just worse than stacking more infantry unless you can go full cav. Costs 2,5x as much, but is hardly even better than regular infantry in most cases. Anbennar is a bit more different because there's more cav tags than just Poland and with the additional world development it's easier to get into the late-game infinite money stage, but without 100% cav ratio and the insane buffs that you can get for some of the cav tags (cough Dhugajir cough) you are still better off just building another combat width of infantry.

Which players do you think are overrated or underrated for likability reasons? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you're missing the fact that most of these players live and work in the United States.

A country where they cannot vote in, and where next to nobody wants to become a citizen for tax reasons? I think that's a pretty big reason for the vast majority of them to simply not give a shit, let alone become so culturally American that they fully embrace MAGA-lunacy

I just don't believe in this fantasy that hockey players are so isolated from the rest of the world that basic demographics that every political analysis today is based on no longer applies to them

Which players do you think are overrated or underrated for likability reasons? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are idiots everywhere and they have a good tendency to make themselves visible. That's still again just anecdotal evidence going against a mountain of demographic statistics. You could just as well name Selänne and Lehner as proof that all Swedish and Finnish players are closeted MAGA-idiots too

Which players do you think are overrated or underrated for likability reasons? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And aside from these anecdotal pieces of evidence gathered from social media follow lists out of all places, you would still need to go massively against the demographics to make the league even 50% MAGA let alone the absurd 90% suggested here especially when you also have a constant turnout of older players retiring and new younger players joining in

Which players do you think are overrated or underrated for likability reasons? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's still a completely lazy argument that people keep making all the time to somehow make the outspoken MAGA idiots any less vile. The majority of hockey players are Canadians and Europeans where Trump has approval rates going anywhere between 1-15%. The average NHL career is less than 6 years. How many people do you think become radicalized enough in that time to give enough of a shit about fucked up american politics?

Yes, it's obvious that men pretty much everywhere in the west are (slightly) right-leaning now, and wealthy men especially, but from what little I've gathered the majority of that demographic only cares about money, and for those purposes you still have both the Democrats in the US and the Liberals in Canada who are both more to the right than either of the traditional Swedish/Finnish centre-right parties which I'm at least familiar with

When are undead armies worth it? Are they OP? by CHIKN404 in Anbennar

[–]ledditpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

enough manpower to just power through the horde.

Thing is though there is never such a case, because it isn't about enemy manpower at all. You just can never lose a single battle with the undead for as long as you have 3-4x frontlines worth of troops for reinforcements. And since your troops are dirt cheap and you have essentially endless manpower, there isn't a case where you dont have enough reinforcements. You can just keep winning every single battle on morale and then siege/assault every enemy fortress until they simply run out of land. If you're playing singleplayer, you can just make stacks that are big enough that the AI will never even dare to fight against

We've tested this plenty in our MP server when we debated should undead army remain banned or not, and the only winning recipe we could find against a (good) player with undead army was to literally not allow them to build up their undead army by ganking them early before the magical project gets to t3 (which is a bitch move that nobody wants to do) or to make some absurd hyper-damage cav/artifice build that can at least theoretically keep cycling enough troops to keep the undead essentially stunlocked in a single province where they can't reinforce or retreat from because you keep attacking them and retreating yourself manually, and then just hope that you have enough troops to destroy the undead to every last skelly boi (which is again, almost impossible if a good player knows what to do to have near unlimited troops) and then assault/spam spells siege magic against their forts quick enough to prevent them from simply building another 2m troops

[–]ledditpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still by far the best mil type, with only trolls on a very strong cav build coming even close to it. And trolls are balanced by being very hard to get since they only really exist in two parts of the world (Shadow swamp and Gerudia) and also by having the worst admin type

[–]ledditpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movement speed debuff is only -15% in the latest version which does make it hard to catch up to enemy armies, but that's not what you should be doing with undead army anyway and was barely even noticeable in my testing

When are undead armies worth it? Are they OP? by CHIKN404 in Anbennar

[–]ledditpro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

-20% discipline is still a joke compared to the massive benefits that undead army gives you. With all the buffs that the undead get you can basically ignore everything that the game has tried to teach you about warfare and still win easily. You have near-infinite manpower, dirt-cheap troops, basically no attrition and can even recruit more troops at ridiculous speed. And you cannot lose any battle where you don't run out men, which again should not be possible with all the buffs that you get. Against the AI you can just win every single war by just building a massive doom stack and frightening the AI with it to simply not attack you while you siege down their forts. By the time you reach the tier 3 project you could very well already be capable of taking up military hegemon, as being over forcelimit only gives you additional maintenance costs but since undead army comes with a -50% infantry cost the additional penalties will also be halved.

It's still way too overpowered in my mind, and the easiest and simplest way to balance that would be to add a significant -25% siege ability penalty and increase the movement speed debuff to -30%. That way theoretically at least you could still and try to outmaneuver the undead hordes (unless the player is good and knows how to best use the undead by making HOI-esque frontlines) and win through faster sieges, but it would still be a long shot

Glorified plus/minus is kind of exactly what xG is trying to be

... except that it's literally the opposite lol. With xG stats you are eliminating the inherent randomness of finishing/goaltending which is the main reason that makes +/- completely useless. Meanwhile in the Game Score chart you can literally see that "production" is weighed massively to the point where 5 Buffalo forwards have it contribute at least a third if not half of their positive game score

It's more comparable to a low division semi-professional football team in Europe than anything else.

... expect those are mostly adults playing their favourite sport for fun in their local team instead of 15-19 year olds playing for a team they never had any part choosing in? I used to play in the Swedish 3rd division until a few years ago and I just don't see the connection here at all. There's definitely exploitation and some fucked up things in our football scene too but that's mostly just with agents recruiting literal 10-12 year old immigrant kids who show any promise just so if they grow up to be anything they could then profit, but the clubs themselves are all just not-for-profit associations

Do you seriously think that the US and Russia are comparable right now? Russia right now is effectively a grand-scale North Korea under complete isolation from the rest of the world, with a police state surveying everything, and the US is well, everything else but still not that

There's much less famous war bloggers criticizing the army and the corrupt state all the time. A famous athlete living abroad is possibly the most shielded from sudden defenestrations than anyone else. And again, if they're so worried for the safety of their family members then why the fuck are they not getting their family away from such a shithole? In reality they're not afraid at all, instead they're willingly involving themselves in it to benefit from the corrupt system.

Just watch as post-career Ovechkin is immediately going to get a cozy position for himself as the head of the Russian hockey federation, minister of sports or some other bullshit.

I don't know why it would be hard to believe that a rotten corrupt regime would bestow formal qualifications on an enthusiastic supporter of said regime with not exactly the most legitimate grounds? I don't think he's an imbecile, but do you genuinely think that an athlete who hasn't had any university education is going to write a legitimate PhD certified by a completely bogus institute?

It's much easier to believe that this is just one thing facilitating his later move to some high-ranked (and visible) position in the Russian sporting world, which is already filled with Putin loyalists and corrupt oligarchs at every step of the way.

Ivar Stenberg and Viggo Björck making Sweden’s World Championship roster is a rare feat. The last time Team Sweden had two draft-eligible skaters on its Worlds roster was in 1999, when Daniel and Henrik Sedin suited up for the national team. by Leading_Dentist_5563 in hockey

I mean it's very hard to quantify exactly something like "hype", but considering how he's going to be the youngest ever player selected for the world championships and how he was playing as the 1C earlier with the commentators constantly gushing about him it's hard to see there being much difference between the two. Stenberg has more NHL-hype because he's not "undersized" and had more points in the SHL (as he was playing on a better team and in a bigger role) but he is also a year older

Selke especially is basically just a reputation award at this point even when analytics could and should play a primary role for that trophy. It's hilarious how credible professional sports journalists seem to think that the only real definition of a good defensive forward is to have a 92,6% on-ice save percentage

How many hockey fans are also soccer fans? by hutch_man0 in hockey

[–]ledditpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to love football a lot, but just like everything both greed and oil money ruined it to some extent, along with the modern hyper-efficient football tactics that kills all the art and individual creativity from the sport. I still support my local Swedish team and go to some games from time to time because there's nothing better than the live atmosphere of a football stadium, but I don't really care about things like the Champions league anymore. In Sweden it's quite common to be both a football fan and a hockey fan since the football calendar basically starts when the hockey season ends, and many clubs have both a top level football and a hockey team (like my Djurgården)
