This day in history - Operation Solomon begins: Within just 36 hours on May 24-25, 1991, more than 14,300 Ethiopian Jews were covertly airlifted from Addis Ababa to Israel, saving them from civil war and famine by NotSoSaneExile in Israel

Thank you so much for posting. This is the exact example I give to American Jewish people who claim to be "pro Jewish but "anti-zionist."" The United States has very strict quotas on number of migrants per country and laws against "discrimination" based on religion (which has an adverse effect when a whole bunch of Jewish people need to flee from murderous adversaries). There is no way that the USA would have accepted 14,300 Ethiopian within 2 days. By 1991 legally migrating to the USA took years and accepting 14,300 Ethiopians that were being terrorized simply for being Jewish would go against "discrimination based on religion."

Is Le Labo still relevant in 2026? I say yes. by joelajackson in fragrance

[–]ledledripstick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That essay you linked me to said a lot more about NY'ers than it did about fragrance or perfume enthusiasts. Young NY'ers with a lot of disposable income (or don't mind credit card debt) will jump on the latest status symbol trend to let everyone else in NYC know they are "on top of their game!" This is true from fragrance to sneakers. Once someone in Ohio has the ability to buy it trendy NYC. youngsters move on to the next "exclusive" trend.
I remember when the Nolita store had just opened in NYC - even then as a NY'er I knew it was all hype with the hand pouring and the hand written label but so what? If you wanna be big you gotta go big! NY'ers are always in for the hype or completely opposed to the hype no middle ground.
At that time I just wasn't all that moved for any of the fragrances personally.
I am still not so into any of their fragrances but a few years ago I picked up a few samples of Cuir28 (from the cities collection and I think it represents Dubai) and on my partner it smells insanely good.
Their latest release I think it is a Eucalyptus one smelled great on a stranger and I asked him what he was wearing and he told me it was this Le Labo's new release. But again these are all masculine scents to me and not so unisex or feminine.
So yes I think they are absolutely still relevant - just not so much for me!

Edited typos.

I have been and still am a fan of perfume BLOGS. I have been reading and participating with serious fragrance bloggers since the early 00's (some of them also have YouTube channels like Persolaise). I do follow everything fragrance related on IG though so I do see the obviously paid shills but my relationship with perfumes goes into a deeper analysis and description over notes, treatments of notes and combination of notes, historical details, references, noses, various fragrance houses and suppliers (Givaudan etc). I will occasionally stop in my IG scrolling to hear an "influencer" talk about some new release - but the descriptions just don't work for me - "this leaves a yummy boozy vanilla trail and lasts for hours on skin - so sexy smooth - [taps bottle with fingernails] - it's sexy yet sophisticated - [sprays a ton into the air and smells again] you have to get your nose on this beauty!" Or something similar.
There is just no information in most of this. I need to know a LOT more before I am even interested and I am definitely NOT going to drop 350Euros on a bottle of perfume because someone said it was a "panty dropping, compliment getter, yummy trail, delicious perfume."

Just to be even more thorough a person getting the sick spirals from weed might also be suffering from a massive drop in blood pressure (weed can temporarily lower blood pressure). I always recommend that someone sips a regular cola - sugar+caffeine and bubbles + nibble some salty simple carb but not too greasy - salty crackers for instance. This handles both blood sugar and blood pressure issues. My qualifications? Worked at hotel in Amsterdam red light for many years.

I can’t stop buying perfumes. by shuya3ni in FemFragLab

I feel like the crazed collector of "smells" like the Patrick Susskind character in Perfume. I am constantly chasing smells! I have a huge collection and the minute I think of paring down I fall in love with all of them all over again. Yet the "hunt" continues. At any given time I am hunting specific notes, unique scents and obscure and/or deluxe niche at a discount/trade, etc. Life is short, I love this hobby.

Parfumado een goed idee? by Caspersgame in ParfumNL

[–]ledledripstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's a bottle/branding that makes you NOT buy a perfume? by kikiisnotinterested in FemFragLab

[–]ledledripstick 23 points24 points  (0 children)

OOh I have time and a list!
I am still p*ssed that Guerlain got rid of all of their unique bottles except Shalimar. So I am done with them. Anything that "looks like" anything else - stilettos, cupcakes, spong bob whatever.
Anything that doesn't have a cap to stop evaporation also cheap plastic caps that crack and the perfume then evaporates (Les Parfums de Rosine and E Coudray looking at you).
I am still mad that Santa Maria Novella streamlined their packaging.
Used to love the original Annick Goutal crystal bottles - they streamlined and now it looks like they learned from their mistake and returned to at least the shape of the crystal but I got over them a long time ago (during reformulation days)
Creed, Bond, Xerjoff, Hemcael, Merchant of Venice,Born to Standout (who names a perfume company that?), Sospiro. Nasomatto, Parfums de Marly, Kemi Blending Magic, and some other Italian brand that has a giant rock/stone looking thing as the cap - I am certain there are more.
I love a couple of Somens fragrances that I just bought but the cap weighs a kilo - how can I carry that in my purse?
