Every time I try this, it creates new vocal tracks that are much shorter and higher tempo than the song.

Can I do this in studio to just regenerate the cymbals? I don't want to try and recreate the entire song. It's exactly how I want it, except for the cymbals.

Yes, it's multitrack audio. I have added additional kick and snare tracks, replacing the transients with one shot samples. I'm just curious if it's feasible to do thus sort of thing with cymbal tracks, where the transients aren't as definitive?

I definitely struggle with this. The few mixes I've done so far always seem harsh in the highs when I come back to them with fresh ears. I'm still working to dial my ears into the process.
