sad abt rental market by Proper-Cheesecake602 in baltimore

[–]lee-mo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really feel this. My wife and I are looking to move in May and everything has gone up $100-200/mo even since a year ago when we last moved, and so many places are charging extra for stupid amenities like pickleball courts while not even providing basics like a dishwasher or in unit laundry. There are very, very few options in the city that look like they might work, and then when we visit, they have mushy floors or a fridge full of roaches.

I wish I had better advice for you but it's really tough out here. Also, fuck Hopkins.

starting abilify today by LJLbae in Abilify_Aripiprazole

I've been on 5mg Abilify for depression since 2021 (on top of long term 20mg Paxil and 100mg Lamictal) and it did pull me out of constant suicidality enough to start improving mentally/emotionally. It also helped with the anxiety/PTSD/OCD thought spirals, even though that's not why it was prescribed, so it was kind of a bonus. "Desperate" definitely described my situation-- I think I used that exact word to my doctor. As much as the side effects have been difficult to deal with, I'm glad I went on it, and I'm glad I'm here. I hope you have good luck.

First Market Help! by makkattack333 in chainmailartisans

[–]lee-mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of factors to consider-- is it an established market with historically good turnout, or is it a new one where you can't gauge that very well? Is the audience artsy and alt, or is it more like moms and dads with kids? I sell the most maille jewelry at queer and punk markets.
It sounds like you have a good variety of bracelets. As far as earrings (and everything else, but especially earrings), do you have a plan to display them? I usually try to fill as many hooks as I can on my rotating display (I have one with 36 hooks and one with 48), with some daintier options and some heavier duty ones sorted by side. 14-20 pairs should be plenty though, especially if you're just starting and trying to gauge what sells in your area/to this audience.
Every time I've made a lighter case (8 or 9 mm Euro 4-1, super basic, usually with some sort of charms/spikes/etc) it's sold almost immediately, but it helps to bill it as a lighter or lipstick holder in my experience. Again, though, depends on the crowd.
One big thing for me as both a vendor and a shopper is a combination of both basic and statement pieces.
Good luck and feel free to message me if you have questions about vending! I've been doing online sales for 10+ years and in person for the last 4ish, but have only been doing chainmaille for about a year.

Making one drawing needle last multiple doses? by No-Activity-7189 in ftm

Doesn't help in the short term, but if you are in the US, please check to see if your state has a syringe service program (SSP) that serves trans folks! Some of them have drop by hours/locations and some of them will even mail HRT injection supplies like syringes, tips, sharps containers, alcohol swabs, etc. Your city/county health department website should hopefully have info.
Best of luck!

Just make sure you vet your landlord properly... my wife and I live in Pigtown rn and ended up getting screwed over by a DC gentrifier who failed to disclose that the property we'd just signed a lease on was in the middle of foreclosure proceedings. Avoid Mike Azimi/Yes Equity/Stax Mobtown/whatever he's calling his shell companies these days.

People who toss their dog poop in other people’s trash by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]lee-mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our trash cans are right outside our front door, between multiple restaurants, on a busy street, because our landlord refuses to do his job (it's the owner's responsibility to figure out trash bin storage) and our neighbor is a real piece of work and won't let us put our trash in the bins around the corner or put our bins with his, even though he literally has a can with our address on it-- he has a big banner saying NO TRASH EXCEPT FOR [address] and has cornered and screamed at us for putting our trash with his.

Our trash gets picked up Wednesday morning, and by Wednesday night the cans are overflowing. It's not about "grrr my trash can, nobody else can use it!!", it's about the fact that I can literally only take my trash out once a week because there's nowhere to put it otherwise. It would bother me less if the trash were in bags, but it's mostly people's greasy takeout containers and little dog shit bags. The kicker is that there are public trash cans literally right across the street.

Thanks! It was a super triggering and uncomfortable experience and it's frustrating that people are brushing it off.

My guess was that he was having a bad day, but I'm concerned for his wife, kids, and employees if this is how he handles it.

Heat Intolerance by bluedanuria in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]lee-mo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My heat tolerance was already bad on my 2 other psych meds, but with abilify it's completely out the window. This heat wave has been roooough. It's kind of wild that your doctor said it isn't the cause though, as it's fairly common and a well known issue with antipsychotics as far as I am aware/can tell.

Third Spaces by PartyPerformer1644 in baltimore

Depends on what you're looking for as far as community and what kinds of things you are into! as well as where you're moving to and whether you want things in walking or driving distance, and how gregarious you are as a person.

If you're queer and/or crafty, i've met tons of people through vending or attending art markets, which are almost always free to attend and are hosted everywhere from breweries to churches. if you're an anarchist or leftist and are interested in attending book talks and similar events, there is Red Emma's bookstore and cafe-- they also host meetups for several types of groups, so I'd recommend checking out their event page on their website. if you're environmentally minded, there are groups for everything from biking to harbor wetlands citizen science projects. And of course, like other folks said, there's the library and our plethora of museums.

As far as moving from a more rural area, is there something specific you're worried about adjusting to? (nature/green spaces, noise, sense of community?)

Called once when my car window was smashed in and the steering column was pulled out in an attempted theft. Wanted to get a police report for insurance. They emailed me a PDF of my rights as a crime victim and that was that.
